The Steelers defense is not overrated because for years people have called it old and slow. It has improved but no one is calling it one of the the elite defenses of the NFL. Statistically they gotten better after their loss to the Cowboys. Yes they got out coached by the Patriots. Vikings started off strong but imploded midway during the season.

Viking defense did implode, because it eventually wore down from being on the field so much...Vikings had no running game to sustain clock eating drives...either they were three & out or Bradford scored too quick... and left tackle T.J. Clemmings is easily the worst offensive lineman in the history of organized football...never seen anything like it/him... if the Vikings had a stud like Villanueva, on their left side, shit would be different... |

Too bad Brady wasn't around during the 1995 Steeler era defense. They would have beat the shit
out of Brady. Greg Lloyd and Kevin Greene on the edge and Levon Kirkand and Chad Brown on the inside oh and they actually had a secondary then that could cover. Woodson, Figures, Perry, and Lake. Woodson would have knocked Brady ass out on a corner blitz like he did Warren Moon one year. Don't laugh at my funk

I'm sure it's frustrating to get this close and not even be competitive in the AFC title game but don't deflect blame talk to the players and coaches and owners to see what needs to be done to take the next step. As far as Bell go he and an improved defense may be Ben's best chance to win the Super Bowl. Those young receivers will continue to grow meanwhile Bryant comes back. Remember if it wasn't for Terrell Davis we wouldn't be mentioning John Elway among the all time greats.
I would.....Elway put those Denver teams on his back and took them to Super Bowls. Thing was, those teams were mediocre and at that time, the NFC was the dominant conference. Can't blame Elway for that.
As for Pittsburgh, I've been listening to WFAN sports talk radio all day. Many Steeler callers are unhappy with Tomlin and his inability to adjust on defense.
A couple said Terry Bradshaw was right.
- Elway would still be considered an all-time great. Like u/t said, he carried 3 teams to the Super Bowl. And those teams were simply overmatched by the NFC.
- There's a good article on Deadspin about Brady's historical dominance of the Steelers. It didn't matter whether Cowher or Tomlin was coaching, whether LeBeau or Butler were calling the (same) defenses. Or the personnel on the field. Brady has picked them apart for darn near 15 years in the regular season and the playoffs.
- Bradshaw had an offense loaded with HOFers and the Steel Curtain. Loved him growing up, but it's easy for him to complain about Tomlin, who's not been blessed with the type of talent on defense that Noll had (and put together).
- That aside, Tomlin's got some work to do on and off the field with his team.

The 2007 & 2011 Giants had what you need to throw Brady off, just like the Texans a couple of weeks ago - pass rush, pass rush, pass rush, preferably up the middle. If Atlanta can't do that, game over. |

I suspected that (Reply 30). Around that time, and since, stories have started to leak about his frustrations with Brown's antics and Tomlin and Haley. It must have been brewing for some time, with all of the suspensions and off-the-field stuff they've dealt with for 2 seasons.
Ben, who hasn't always been a choirboy himself, might have had enough.

You also have the Rams there as well. I think the weaker team (take your pick) will leave. If that's the case I hope it's Chargers back to San Diego. Wonder if the Padres will move to L.A as well. |

I can't see the Chargers ever moving back to San Diego, but I guess never say never.
I don't think Los Angeles will support one team, much less two teams. And the Rams were there first, both back in the past and now. The Chargers in LA are going to be a gigantic flop, IMO.
San Antonio has been primed for an NFL team for a long, long time. I think their biggest obstacle is that they built an NFL stadium 20 years ago that isn't up to today's standards. They will have to build a brand new palace, which won't be easy to do. But as long as Red McCombs is alive, he can make it happen there.
I'm not up to date on the Padres situation but LA already has two baseball teams. Think they would take on a third?

No, I don't care one way or the other. I'm just trying to analyze the Chargers situation. I think they're destined to fail in LA and I highly doubt they'd go back to San Diego. So in that case, where would they go?
San Antonio seemed like the most likely destination.

Why was that?? Jim Kelly was the QB. There was talent there, Steve Young, Reggie White, Hershell Walker, and Doug Flutie who come to mind. I use to watch them on TV back in the day and they were fun to watch and seems like people were coming out to watch them (not like NFL Europe where only people in the stadium were family members of the players) Pittsburgh Maulers had a reasonable fan support. What killed the USFL was going against the NFL which caused alot of teams to fold or move. I wish the USFL would come back, it almost did a few years ago but the man behind it pulled out. I hate that long stretch of no football from February - September (not counting pre-season games) and if the USFL would play during that time it would really fill the void. Hey who knows Tebow and Manziel could be stars in that league. The Stars did well and they were overall the strongest team in the USFL.

Brady is the best QB of this era but of all time? Nope.
Otto Graham (the Bill Russell of pro football)
Johnny Unitas (the father of the modern-era QB)
Joe Montana ('nuff said)
Remember, you can't always look at numbers. Back in the day defenses were allowed to do more to QBs & WRs. In today's game, defenses have been neutered to allow more scoring. A QB with a 50% completion today is considered poor - not so in the old days.
As far as pure QB skill, the best I ever saw was Dan Marino. When it came to throwing the ball, no one could touch him. Unfortunately the one SB he went to, he lost to that 15-1 49er team. If Marino had what Elway had late in his career (Terrell Davis, Shannon Sharpe and a defense), he'd have a couple of rings. [Edited 1/28/17 6:45am] |

Steelers are gonna need to draft a QB for the future. Landry Jones is not the answer and not sure if he will be back next year or not. Who do you see the Steelers getting as a QB if they go that route for the next draft?
Mitch Trubisky
Deshaun Watson
DeShone Kizer
Patrick Mahomes
Brad Kaaya
Nathan Peterman
Davis Webb
Jerod Evans
Chad Kelly
Joshua Dobbs
C.J. Beathard
Bart Houston
Seth Russell
Sefo Liufau
Cooper Rush
Alek Torgersen
Zach Terrell
Brady Gustafson
Ryan Higgins
Antonio Pipkin
Garrett Fugate
Austin Appleby
Philip Nelson

Rough crowd. Lots and lots and lots of drunk oilfield workers. They mainly wanted to fight anyone and everyone, and going to a cheap football game was their way of walking into a target-rich environment.
A friend of mine owned the Houston franchise in what was supposed to be the next USFL. I asked him about it and he said it (the new league) was a joke, and the league had recruited him to go on TV and say, "Spring football is coming back!" But he never thought spring football was ever coming back and it didn't.
