17 Movie sequels coming in 2017...
The crew of the ship Covenant find what they think is undiscovered paradise — only to learn it's a dark, dangerous world with only one deadly inhabitant. Starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Katherine Waterston. Release date: May 19.
Ridley Scott left audiences scratching their heads after 2012's "Prometheus," billed as a prequel to the Alien series. Five years later, Scott looks to be giving us the sequel we hoped for in "Alien: Covenant." The new film focuses on the spaceship Covenant as they stumble upon what they think is paradise. Of course, paradise doesn't come with Xenomorphs, so mayhem and murder are sure to ensue. Returning from "Prometheus" is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), who is the only inhabitant on the planet.

Blade Runner 2049 (Oct. 6)
As early as 1999, there were efforts to create a sequel to 1982's "Blade Runner," a neo-noir featuring Harrison Ford as a cop designated to hunt down rogue "replicants" or androids who were raging against their short lifespans. All the attempts to create a sequel have finally paid off as "Blade Runner 2049" will finally see light of day in 2017, with a cast that includes Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Barkhad Abdi, Robin Wright, and a returning Ford. While Ridley Scott is only serving in a producer capacity this time around, Denis Villeneuve is the sort of director you'd want to have on a project like this, as he's fresh off a sci-fi masterpiece of his own with this year's "Arrival."

All three of the above movies rank high on my list of things to see in 2017. I know there is an argument to be made against Hollywood doing constant remakes and sequels but surely as long as the movies are good, then it doesn't matter.

Remakes: Beauty and the Beast It Jumanji Murder on the Orient Express The Dark Tower I don't have high hopes for The Dark Tower. I love the books but the movie seems like such a departure. They should have just made The Gunslinger (the first book in the series) into a movie and cast Timothy Olyphant in the lead role. I love Idris Elba (a lot!) but the character is described as being very similar to Clint Eastwood in terms of looks and and mannerisms and I don't see much of a resemblance between Elba and Eastwood. Not only that but I'm assuming that the movie is going to be pg 13 but to do the source material justice, it really should be R rated. I know what I'm proposing is a recipe for a box office disaster. An R rated fantasty western starring an actor best known at the movies for Hitman. And I know the studio will want a big hit so casting a popular actor like Idris Elba in a pg 13 movie makes more sense but from a viewers perspective, I'd rather the movie be good and faithful to the source. Plus, Timothy Olyphant is a God in a cowboy hat who deserves another chance at the movies.

I know, I know. One of my favorites. If I never see sequal I'm good. It is a movie that makes you want more or ask questions. Which mean it is a good movie for me. So I hope they stick to the things that made the original a classic.

Today, the first trailer for the 2017 film reboot of the long-running TV show, Baywatch dropped. The ’90s action soap opera best remembered for Pamela Anderson running in a red swimsuit is getting the 21 Jump Street treatment with Seth Gordon of Horrible Bosses fame in the director’s chair. This first trailer features all the hits you would expect. There’s your buddy doofus wanna-be action heroes. Characters joking about the slow-mo effect when a supermodel runs down the beach. There are swimsuits. Oh, are there swimsuits. The trailer focuses more on Efron and the Rock, the duo with the most comedy experience. They work well together if balls jokes are your thing. It’s a good ball joke. Rumors have it the film will be rated R, so we can likely expect many more ball jokes.

Jumanji might be fun, but then again how do you improve on the original, it was fun because it was original, imho.

I really did not love Prometheus, but I'm still looking forward to this. Glad to see Fassbender is back on board as David. He was one of the few things I liked about the previous movie. If you will, so will I

'The Empire Strikes Back'? 'Godfather II'?
You have to make some exceptions. I agree very few better the original movie though.
My big problem with Hollywood are needless reboots of classic or already good films. 'The Thing', 'Robocop', 'Poltergeist' etc. When i read they're merely remaking a film it depresses me sometimes.

I'm ok with sequels because Sci-fi demands it. James Bond is the King with sequels. Now remaking movies get on my nerves.
