Exactly Zsa Zsa Gabor dead at 99
Zsa Zsa Gabor, the curvy blonde actress known for her intriguing personal life, including nine marriages, her breathy accent and her habit of calling everyone "darling," died Sunday after reportedly suffering a heart attack. She was 99. ADVERTISEMENT Gabor is survived by her ninth husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt. The actress was born Sari Gabor in Budapest on Feb. 6, 1917. Her two sisters, Magda and Eva, also became actresses and she followed Eva to America, where she became a popular celebrity -- famous for being famous. Her lengthy film career began with 1952's "Lovely to Look At," and included spots in a dozen films and television series, including John Huston's "Moulin Rouge" (1952) and the 1958 film noir "Touch of Evil" by Orson Welles. Gabor's marriages were the makings of endless headlines and among her husbands were actor George Sanders and hotel magnate Conrad Hilton. "I am a marvelous housekeeper," she once said. "Every time I leave a man I keep his house." She also noted, "Husbands are like fires. They go out when unattended." Gabor often appeared as herself on the screen, including a memorable role in the 1991 film "The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear." She regularly appeared on the talk show "The Merv Griffin Show" during the 1960s and 1970s. Griffin also created the game show "Jeopardy!" One of Gabor's toughest rounds of medical problems began while she was watching "Jeopardy." She broke her right hip and suffered a concussion in July 2010 when she fell out of bed while watching the U.S. quiz show. At one point, she received last rites. Her now-deceased publicist, John Blanchette, told NewsCore after her initial fall, "She has been bedridden since her accident in 2002," referring to a car accident that left the actress partially paralyzed and forced her to use a wheelchair. She also suffered a stroke in 2005. In November 2011, she was rushed to the hospital after bleeding from the feeding tube in her stomach, according to her husband. That incident came only a month after she was taken to UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center, where she previously had been admitted multiple times, after losing consciousness. Gabor’s right leg was amputated that same year after powerful antibiotics failed to clear up an infection. She was again hospitalized after screen legend Elizabeth Taylor died in March of that year. Gabor was quoted at the time as saying she feared she would be the next to go.

Zsa Zsa Gabor made it to 99?! That's some long-lasting genes, right there. [Edited 12/18/16 17:51pm] "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

According to BBC, there was a significant spike in celebrity deaths compared to previous years in the first 3 months of 2016, then it tapered off to normal levels. I dont think its just the number of celebrity deaths. Its the striking amount of best of the best who passed on. People who had wide reaching and enduring impact on our cultural lives. I would have to say David Bowie, and I have a not too pleasant story about it, so if you are feeling down right now STOP READING. All right. 1980. I'm in High School, I've got some money from some kind of job, and my oldest brother, who's pretty close to leaving the nest, comes in and says, "I've got this great job with a record-distribution company, I can get you and a friend any 10 records you want for $20, each and every month." After I pick myself up off the floor, I say, "Well, number one is David Bowie - Scary Monsters, I hear Pete Townshend and Robert Fripp are on it." I get my records the next day. Bowie is my first listen. Absolutely great, at first I'm listening just for Pete and Robert, but damn this Bowie is weird/cool/mysterious. I raid my brothers' (I have two older brothers) collections for earlier Bowie, I become a Bowie fan. Also the cover art on all his albums destroys me, because I have ideas of becoming an album designer myself. Diamond Dogs? First the dog part of Bowie is *ahem* very male, then some a-hole gets upset with the art and it comes out again with half-doggie Bowie as female, an outrageously funny joke to those who are hep, which of course I now am. Thank you David Bowie, you have helped me be cool. Then, I become manic-depressive, go thru years of crap, get born again and check in with David Bowie and he's Mr Clean at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert and gettiing down on one knee with all cameras rolling and reciting The Lord's Prayer. Great! I am quite into Bob Dylan's Christian conversion, so maybe this is how rock is going. U2 are big in my life at this time too. Then, the ex-Mrs Bowie, Angie, decides to write a tell all that is going to expose David Bowie and Mick Jagger as long time lovers. I take the bait, buy the book as soon as it comes out, no reviews read, and it is the stupidiest book ever. Angie is a fool, just obviously out to make a buck. Yes, she came home to find David and Mick in bed. NO. DETAILS. She barely knows Mick. She writes quite a lot that the Stones song "Angie" is all about her, but darn that Dave and Mick, they blocked her from printing the lyrics in her moronic book. About a week later, Keith Richards pops up to say, duh, the lyrics are about his daughter, Angie, not this skank Angela Bowie. I have a worthless book on my hands. Except this other story, that David was doing so much cocaine he got involved with Satanist drug dealers, and did a ritual by the Bowie pool that resulted in a large devilhead shaped stain to appear on the pool's floor, which simply would not wash off no matter which cleaning companies they called. Angie and David break up later. OK, I am a young naive Christian in this year, there is no internet yet, so I am kind of freaked out by this story, and never buy another David Bowie record ever again. Well done, ex-Mrs Bowie, you have got me to do my part in destroying your former lover. And yes, you are the true brave groundbreaking bisexual heroine, Dave was just along for the ride, and he and Mick are hypocrits and womanizers, which is the final claim of your tome. More time goes by, it is now 2016 and I'm bored one evening and decide to look at Bowie's latest videos on youtube, just to see how the old geezer is doing. He looks pretty good, healthy, but in this video there's a Priest going to a bar and he's served two bloody eyeballs (you know the video). This leads me to a website that disects all Bowie's videos as Luciferian, and claims he has always been a Luciferian, then the next day Bowie dies. I'm conflicted, because I'm now old enough to know not to believe everything I read, yet I've studied with my church, Seventh Day Adventist, and Jehovah's Witnesses before that, and Pentacostals before that, that Satanists and Luciferians operate on confusing the issue. So, what to think? I've been thinking about it all year, along with Prince, and Trump, and a great Christmas that came to an end when I got home to turn on the radio and the famous George Michael is dead. What a shame, I think, good pop songs, never bought his stuff though, how old was he? Well, he was 53, the SAME AGE I AM NOW. So this year can't get over with fast enough for me, I'm thinking of praying for God to put me in a coma until Spring 2017. So yeah, David Bowie's death was the second worst for me, with of course Prince's being THE WORST. But I have quite happy memories of seeing Prince play live.

Pete Burns, October 23, 2016. (Probably known as much for his plastic surgery as his music with Dead or Alive). [Edited 12/27/16 16:13pm] There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.
