The Batman (2018)

My apologies to Mr. Affleck. I was pleasantly surprised at how he nailed the Dark Knight in BvS. That scene where he rescues Martha was totally vicious and badass....that WAS Batman. Really glad to hear he's getting a stand-alone film. Maybe this could be as great as the Nolan trilogy.

Excuse you, but the real Batman would have NEVER allow Wonder Woman or any fellow superheroes to lead the charge against Doomday without a plan of attack. Remember, Batman is to the Justice League what Captain America is for the Avengers.

I'm still not sold on Ben Affleck as Batman yet.

I'm really looking forward to his standalone movie. Then again, I wasn't expecting him to be bad in Dawn of Justice like a lot of people was. He's a good actor but just because he was in crap like Daredevil a lot of people wrote him off. He's a really good director too so I expect his Batman movie to be good. My favourite live action Batman movie is still the 1989 version with Michael Keaton but if Ben Affleck does what he's capable of, this should be better. A few more fight scenes like the ones in BvS would go down a treat. And they NEED to get the villain right. Superhero movies are generally only as good as their villain.

Doomsday was super powered, Wonder Woman is super powered, Batman is not super powered. I'd think he'd have been only too happy to let her take the lead on this one. His main attribute is his intelligence, so it would have been pretty stupid to take time out to go over a plan when Doomsday is smashing everything up. I'm sure we'll see more of him acting as leader in the Justice League movie though.

I notice you refer to the Nolan trilogy as great. Honest question; do you actually consider all three movies to be great?

Batman can only have a plan of attack if he's studied his opponent. Doomsday was unleashed before he had a chance to do that. Plus they were not a team yet so I doubt Wonder Woman would be taking orders from someone she doesn't know and probably in her mind has less fight and strategic skills than herself.

That fight scene when he rescued Martha was off the chain. Absolutely the most vicious Batman I've seen yet. Up until then imo the best fight scene in a superhero movie was Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Man of Steel.

Looking forward to The Batman with Deathstroke. Darn shame he's a villain. To me he falls into that category of like a Punisher,Magneto, Spawn. Etc. Like I feel most people would be if they had abilities.

Still Nolan's Trilogy imo is gonna be hard to top. I think it's the best comic book trilogy yet.

Wow, that´s good news. I really like Ben Affleck as an actor and director. Sure, he´s made a few bad movies but who hasn´t ?

He´s one of the best as Bruce Wayne AND Batman.

I was just watching that scene again.....fucking BRUTAL. You KNOW Batman's thinking about his parents when he's tearing those clowns apart.

Superman vs Faora & Nam-Ek was badass too. Supes was overmatched, plus the Kryptonians were military trained.

Emma - For me, The Dark Knight is "The Empire Strikes Back" of the Nolan trilogy. Batman Begins and DKR are on the level of "Star Wars". Hope that makes sense.

Heath Ledger's Joker......doesn't get any better than that. But I have to give an honorable mention to Spader's Ultron, Molina's Doc-Ock & Roth's Abomination.

I always see the nolan movies treated like they're The Godfather or something and I don't get it. I love the character of Batman. Or more precisely, I love the version of him as depicted by Michael Keaton and Kevin Conroy. But Christian Bale just isn't Batman for me. He's a good Bruce Wayne. But his Batman doesn't do it for me. Likewise Heath Ledger's Joker. To me, there is no better Joker than Mark Hamill. Jack Nicholson is my favourite live action Joker. Heath Ledger's version was too, for lack of a better word, serious. And don't get me started on Dark Knight Rises. I really liked Batman Begins and I quite enjoyed The Dark Knight but Rises was a major disappointment. Boring, full of plot holes, predictable as fuck and Bane was terrible. Awful ending too. As far as superhero trilogies go, I'd rather X-Men. Sure, the third one was worse than Dark Knight Rises but parts 1 and 2 were among my favourite movies of all time.

In terms of my own favourite comic book movie villains, I'd go with

1. Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor
2. Jack Nicholson as Joker
3. Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin
4. Ian McKellen as Magneto
5. Tom Hiddleston as Loki

I hope you're right. BvS:DOJ was only an OK film. Suicide Squad was way better.

Serious is what I want - no campy shit. Jack's version was ok for its time, but Heath took it to another level. Nolan said he used the early Batman comics and "The Killing Joke" graphic novel as inspiration for the Joker - music to my ears.

Have you seen the Killing Joke animated movie? Mark Hamill voices the Joker. It's quite good.

To me, the ultimate Joker is from the animated series of the 90's. In fact, that series is the ultimate portrayal of all things Batman related. Sure, the Joker could be campy at times but he's a maniac dressed up as a clown. Isn't what makes him so scary and evil the fact that he's doing all these terrible things with a big smile on his face? Mark Hamill enjoys the murder and mayhem, Jack Nicholson enjoyed it. Heath Ledger didn't seem to be having much fun. Not only that but he seems to me as though he was playing the part as an experiment to see what would happen if Tom Waits turned to crime. He was good for what he was doing, but that's not the Joker I know.

The darkness, the seriousness is what I liked the most about the Nolan Trilogy. I think it would be silly for WB to go in that direction at all. I'm pretty sure Affleck will embrace the tone set by Nolan, and Snyder

It pains me to say it because im HUGE DC Fan, but...after the mess Warners made with my favourite comic character and also the greatest comic villian of all time...The Joker in the Suicide Squad film, I couldnt care less about the DCEU anymore, and theres no bloody excuse it, Mr J's comic history basically writes itself...the suicide squad script was awfull and Jared Leto's casting was a mis-fire as was his appearance, after-all they went for a classic looking Batman...so they should of done a classic looking Joker also (Purple Mob Suit and Hat etc..)...instead of him looking like he been designed by some 12 year old latino L.A gangster "hahahahaha tatooes etc.." Now dont get me wrong I love Jared Leto as much as anyone.. but his performance was terrible, cringey, unfunny and forced...oh and his "Joker" laugh was awfull sounded like he was having breathing troubles or some kind of asthma attack...most cringest performace ive seen in a while....and im not even gonna start talking about the film..awfull...and that Batman scene in the alley was just offensive to a big fan like myself....as if Bruce Wayne would pounce on a parent and his child in a dark alley like that due to his own history....so bad..I wish it was laughable....

Suicide Squad definitely had its problems but maybe you're being just a tad too harsh? It's not as though the Joker has never looked like that before. I remember seeing an article online where they discussed some comic book incarnation of the Joker that was very similar to Jared Leto. Same tattoos and mannerisms. I agree it was miscast and mishandled but like I said, that version of the Joker was taken from some comic book.
As for the Batman scenes, I thought they were the best thing about it. I don't see any reason why he wouldn't approach Will Smith in the alley just because he was with his kid. If anything, it was a smart move because it gave Will Smith a handicap. He's less likely to fight back if his daughter is there.

All that being said, it SHOULD have been a far better movie than it was but at least it gave WB the kick up the arse they needed to make sure they improve for the next set of movies. Wonder Woman and the Justice League both look really good and I have faith in Ben Affleck to get his Batman movie right.

I'm rooting for Ben . Hope his new gangster flick does well. With The Batman I think Ben is gonna be under tremendous pressure to put out something better or equally as revered as The Dark Knight Trilogy. Don't know if he will but I certainly believe he's capable.

In terms of my own favourite comic book movie villains, I'd go with 1. Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor 2. Jack Nicholson as Joker 3. Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin 4. Ian McKellen as Magneto 5. Tom Hiddleston as Loki

My favorite of those you named is Magneto.

I am fatigued of Jokers. We got villians up the wazoo and they keep making Joker movies for what?

Same with Wolverine...I am not amused. sad
