looks that way doesn't it? not to jack the thread (sorry King) but birds have amazing legs! they balance on one leg, tuck their head behind a wing and fall asleep.... they have the ability to 'lock' their feet into a grip which doesn't depend on them consciously grabbing the branch, their foot just locks in place when they need it to.

moreover, their arteries and veins in the leg run side-by-side so if the blood in their feet gets cold, warmer blood going to the foot warms up blood returning to the body to keep the overall leg and foot quite warm. thus, they don't suffer from frostbite from exposed toes.. birds are wonderful, ancient little creatures descended right from dinosaurs mushy
