Even so...

I've already taken a informal survey from the other two music sites I belong to and what they'd like to see on my channel. The biggest thing are building a media server (photos, music, & movies), creating a "free" Cloud server that can be accessed from your smart-phone or tablet. The other thing the guys and ladies mentioned form my other two sites, they'd like to see reviews of the umpteen media / music players Linux have to offer.

Basically I've narrowed my channel down to Linux and how its one of the best "OS" to use for those who have are media junkies like myself. Editing / recording movies, ripping your CD / Record collection to digital, how to touch up a pics all using open source software. The main goal for the channel is to teach people basic easy ways to backup and organize their media in a way that's efficient, consolidated and organized. No more up-teem flash drives or hard drives laying around with you data on for safe keeping". For once if the system is somehow compromised... with once click or two you system will be back up and running.

I'll have tutorials based on "workarounds". For example ....

My Sony DSLR camera, it only support PC and Mac's. An obvious workaround is to us an USB media reader dongle. Place you SD / eMMC module in to USB dongle and upload your pictures or video with open source Openshot. I'll explain who to use Windows software, Microsoft app for Linux users and other software that may allow you to use

PC software using a Linux box (those won't be free) That's a basic over view...

I'll will be using Linux Mint Mate Distro & Raspberry Pi 2 & 3 (OS) for most of my tutorials..

I'm not interested in those things, but anyone making Linux tuts always has my support to begin with! Hey - I'm trying to initiate KoolEaze into the Linux world - already swapped a couple of Orgnotes about basic stuff, yall chime in now!

Understood...

Since most folks on the org are media junkies / music collectors... in most instances their computers are used for those purposes. If I suspect correctly their digital photo's, music, video stuff is here, there, and everywhere. Wouldn't it be cool organize all of their stuff, in a concise and orderly way? Besides, Linux is so stable they won't have to babysit it. I've decided my channel will be narrowly focused on media/music. Some people will learn enough to do what they want to do with their computer and others will take it to another level. That's how I learned, I came to Linux to extend the life of a desktop PC and when I realized it Linux had so much to offer, I dived in even deeper.

Orgers... what's on your computers (besided porn... ) and how do you use it and for what? I'm speaking of your own personal computer. If you have an old XP, Vista ( Chrome no longer supports) or a tired slow Windows 7 PC, Linux could be an option.

Cool! - consumerising Linux is a really great, and important, thing to do, it has my FULL support, and I give you MUCH props!
In another life, maybe *I* would have tried something like this, if I was a little less into programming/tech stuff than I am..... I DO listen to music myself too!, and it's a huge pain in the ass to wrestle soul into a soulless machine so I can enjoy art in peace. To ATTEMPT to, that is.


...but YOUR stuff though, what I remember from our last conversation, assumed that people have like, 5 or 6 computers lying around, around the house, all waiting to be Linux-ised......is that still true?

No, its not about my stuff... that's neither here are there. This is a music website. People are passionate about the arts, music, movies etc, etc. We have musicians on this site, movie & music collectors on this site, illustrators, photographer's, and writers on the org. We have people on the who've collected vast catalog of pictures and articles they've either scanned or grabbed from the web. A lot of those pics (from the web) can no longer be found on the web or accessed. So I know orgies such as Identity, JoeBala, and MickeyDonlez' who've shared their collection of data / media with us have it stored on something, I hope.

It doesn't matter if you have a collection of cooking recipes (handed down through generation) , DIY projects, and thing you'd like to organize, back-up and access from your computer, tablet, smatrphone anywhere in the world you are. This can be done cheaply and simply on a Linux computer. These tutorials will be for the non-techie who thinks you need a P.H.D. in computer science to use a computer. All the things I'll use comes from Linux App store, free of charge and unlike other apps form Apple and Android... they don't access you info.

At the same time before any of this is done...

You'll learn how create and install a boot-table disk or USB thumb drive. They'll learn about file management, navigating and permissions, appearance and system settings, text editing, device Drivers, networking, software Sources, users and groups, system logs, monitoring and backup. If this sounds scary it isn't because if you used a Windows machine you've been doing this one way or another for years. That's why I'm sticking with Linux Mint Mate' and Mint XFCE, because once the see the desktop and file system when the computer boots up... Linux Mint interface is very similar to Windows. Linux is cheaper, more stable and secure.

I doubt that artists and illustrators want to know about device drivers and networking!

Look this is the deal...

Computer age has left artists and i illustrators behind? Not hardly. At the end of the day its about computer literacy.... which is badly needed in the US.

I still have and use HDD. CD/DVD, music and movies... "media domainator media Your on a music site, we collect stuff here. SoulAlive, Cinny, Sexton, and myself.... we have loads of records, CD's, DVD's stuff. Yeah we stream but we also still buy music and movie in all forums.

My definition of technology is, its obsolete when it doesn't fit your needs. So I don't follow trends or keep up with the my tech neighbors. A lot of people don't either.. Most instances the latest greatest thing is going to cost you money... Linux / open source software gives you an option to keep using what you have and edition too using open source software.

By the way for the folks in the US, Comcast is proposing to have a "streaming tax".... an additional month charge for those who use their Internet for streaming.

I'll remind you again, your on a music site D' ! I very seldom purchase digital musicc. Am I willing to transfer my hard-copy music to a digital format? Absolutely. My record collection is over 4 thousand record/CD's, this is several generation of music pass down. Digital formate is the biggest con every... there are perils to have digital only media.

If you were talking about the user interface, ie. how you have to click about on your puter/phone to GET to the damn song you want,...I'd hear you - it IS different from popping a physical CD into your player, no doubt about it - but maybe that needs Work (on the part of the interface designers), instead of outright rejection....? Is that what you meant?

...and why do you call it a "con"?
