Anybody on Second Life? OK, so this, according to me, was UltraCool back in the day, and.....it still exists! Have any of you been on it, and if so, what did you think??

i watched a documentary about how people lost their *real* lives when they became ultra absorbed in it, i also resad some people made a ton of $$$ writing little programs and selling them in the marketplaces and such. sounded cool, but i never played. a couple actually divorced their real spouses to marry each other, after they met in the context of second life.... I'm all for video games and such. I mean, what sane person doesn't enjoy a bit of Mario Kart or Halo every now and then. But this is one of the weirdest, creepiest things I've ever seen.

domainator2010 said: Interesting! - so both the ladies aren't into it..... Personally, I don't like the idea of living a virtual life. It seems like something that sad, lonely people would be into. By the way, I'm not implying that's the case with anyone here so if you are offended, I'm sorry. This kind of thing is just not for me. I'm not a big fan of mindless action games either. The number one thing I look for in games is a great story. So games like the Telltale point and click games and Mass Effect are what I'm most interested in. Though I do have a fondness for Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U. I'd kick anybody's ass in a game of Mario Kart

Just out of curiosity - which one would you guys prefer - a standard social networking site, such as Twitter or any of the others.... or Second Life? Opinions?

My thoughts on Second Life are above and I think that Twitter and other "social' networking sites are the biggest wastes of time there's ever been. There's nothing "social" about them. If you want to be social, get off the computer or the phone and go outside. Meet up with real friends.

My thoughts down to the T - I couldn't have said it better myself.

....that is, if someone could explain to me exactly what those "social sites" are.....

It's no coincidence that the human race, as a whole, seem to be going backwards... I'm not making any accusations about anyone specific, so no offence to you. I do have to disagree that it describes me though. I have actual friends that I see daily, others live abroad and when the opportunity arises, I talk to them on the phone. Me coming onto the org to talk about Prince or Springsteen or movies or whatever else with like-minded people does not equate to spending every waking hour glued to a screen hoping someone has commented on my new profile pic or the picture of whatever I ate last night that I uploaded to instagram for no reason at all. As Sam Jackson once said "it ain't the same ball park, it ain't even the same motherfucking sport".
