The Exocist I was a grown ass woman when I first saw that movie in the theatre. It scared the living daylights out of me. When I got home, I had to turn all the lights on in my house before I went to bed.

Haha! biggrin

Actually the Towering Inferno made for a great opening chapter of my book Fright Films that came out a few years back ... the success of which I basically owe to my parents for letting me spend my childhood watching scary films I was way too young to be watching! lol

My entire childhood was spent watching films I shouldn't have been watching. I'd like to say that they had no impact on me but I'm not sure it's normal for a 6 year old girl to name Robocop and Predator as her two favourite movies...

That's nuts that you mentioned those two films! Robocop was the first film my Dad rented for me when I was about 8. We'd have the tapes for a day so I'd cram in as many watches before the video went back. I squeezed in a final watch before school the next day and I remember my Mum asking "Should you be watching this?" right before the bit where the guy covered in toxic waste goes splat up the car windscreen at the end of the film. lol

Predator is another fave and was when I was a kid, I was obsessed with Arnold ... though it was years before I got to see it uncut as all I had was a copy I'd taped off the TV that had quite a bit missing.

LOL thanks. I never had a father so my mum would show us loads of action movies with Schwarenegger, Stallone, Van Damme etc as a way of introducing some sort of male role model. Maybe she went overboard. I remember getting in trouble in school for saying "Bitches leave". You know that scene in Robocop? I must have only been 5 or 6 at the time... Thinking back, it's a good thing I didn't try to replicate scenes from other movies I watched from around that time. If I got in trouble for quoting Robocop, can you imagine the kind of trouble I'd be in if I was acting out scenes from Basic Instinct.... eek

The Exorcist was pretty scary but since i was a teenager when i first saw it, it wasn't that scary. The movie/TV show that probably scared me the most, was this made for TV movie called Dead Of Night. Dead Of Night was this anthology that featured three short stories. The one story in particular that scared me sh*tless, was Bobby. Bobby was this kid that drowned. His mother was so distraught that she was willing to do anything to bring him back to life. What she brought back to life though, was this....

I was 10 when Dead Of Night came out(1977) and i still haven't forgot that Bobby segment. They remade Bobby(on Trilogy of Terror II), but its nowhere as spooky as the original. A couple years ago there was a similar thread on here and i posted that same picture. Personally i think its one of the most scariest images of any horror move. Anyway, because of the spooky imagery and the religious and spiritual aspects,
I've always been more into occult/supernatural/satanic movies, than slasher horror flicks. For the most part, slasher horror flicks get old, pretty quick.

Here's a few other horror movies that scared me as a kid, or as a teenager, i though were pretty creepy.

Salem's Lot, Night Gallery, The Devils Rain, Ruby(1977), the Sentinel, Its Alive, Audrey Rose, Martin, Race With The Devil, Amityville II:The Possession(hella underrated, IMO), The Beyond, Prince of Darkness, etc...

Nightmare on Elm Street. Freddy Kruger scared the living piss out of me. Couldn't watch those movies until I got older. As far as TV shows, I remember some Tales from the Darkside episodes bothering me. But all in all, I absolutely LOVE horror films.

Halloween, Friday the 13th, The Omen, The Amityville Horror The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, but the scariest one of all was Magic with Anthony Hopkins playing the ventriloquist of that terrifying human-like talking puppet! I still get scared even thinking about it!

when i was 9 my mom let me watch the Exorcist, because she said "this is real this can happen" not only did I learn some new words...but it scared the corn out of me!

The maybe a year latter I watched Helter Skelter! Again with the idea that was a true story pounded into my 10 year old brain! I was scared for years that every bump in the night was killers curting the phone wires....

Then at 17 the orginal "The Hitcher" freaked me out big time...

A few other movies scared me (Texas Chainsaw) but nothing left a lasting impression than those 3
