A huge giant squid (it's squishy)! Here, a team of scientists are shown molesting the squid after its capture. Ooh, the squishy. They say it glows in the dark! http://www.cnn.com/2003/T...index.html [This message was edited Thu Apr 3 6:48:02 PST 2003 by TheMico]

That's so cool...for years and years people didn't believe that thess things actually existed...they were a part of the cryptozoology set. It's nice to see that they have been proven as a species (sorry, I get really nerdy and excited about these things. ) [This message was edited Thu Apr 3 6:36:29 PST 2003 by applekisses]

You have squid options! Don't say we don't care about you on the org!
Stanley Applebaum also posted a squid topic earlier today. He wants to stamp out the evil weapon of mass destruction squid! His post is at http://www.prince.org/msg...&tid=43263 - join the anti-squid revolution! I prefer to discuss the squishiness aspect of the colossal squid. Please, post your thoughts about the squishiness of the colossal squid on this very thread!

I think it's cool too, it brings to mind those C19th engravings showing horrific sea "monsters" pulling down ships and eating sailors alive. Stuff of legends. I'm not sure but I don't think that a giant squid has, as yet, been observed alive!!

Remember hearing all of those reports and stories about whales having huge suction marks all over them, but no one had seen the squid?

I have always been fascinated by sea life and can't wait to see what is uncovered in the next few years with our new technology.

From the article: The squid was eating Patagonian Toothfish, which grow to two meters in length, when it was caught. It was dead when it was hauled into the trawler and the remains are now in the New Zealand national museum. OHMYGOD!! "This is a very aggressive animal and moves quickly. If you fell in the water next to it you would be in big trouble," said Bolstad. The colossal squid finds food by literally glowing in the dark, deep waters to light up prey for its massive eyes -- the biggest of any animal. But it is the colossal squid's weaponry that marks it out from its giant cousin. Its eight arms and two tentacles have up to 25 teeth-like hooks -- deeply rooted into muscle and able to rotate 360 degrees -- as well as the usual suckers to ensure fish do not escape. The hooks not only hold fish for the squid's two parrot-like beaks, but also are used to fend off attacks from hungry sperm whales, O'Shea said. I mean, like, where is the sun?
