Fuck me! My brother and I are going to Toronto for an Annie Lennox concert on Friday and now there's the risk of SARS

My mom just told me that the Minister of Health has declared this a medical emergency. People are wearing masks. You can catch it just from touch. We will be out $600 from concert and plane tickets if this doesn't turn out. But even worse, we'll miss Annie Lennox. What are the chances? This sucks. I'm pissed.

This SARS thing is scary, isn't it? In my city today, they had to take three people out of an airplane and test them immediately. They had just come back from Asia, and there was fear that they caught the disease. The other passengers on the airplane were freaked out. This is becoming a major health crisis!

I think the syptoms associated with it is 101 temp or higher, chest pain, cough. It's spreading a little bit to quickly for comfort. I don't know how many cases they have in Toronto already, but China I beleive is wearing masks.

From what I hear don't let anyone cough on you or in your face and wash your hands frequently. I believe it can live on a surface for about 3 hours.

SARS is 'Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome'. About 1800 people worldwide have come down with it, with about 64 deaths attributed to it. Most of the deaths have been in China and Hong Kong, with six of them in Canada.

From what I heard, antibiotics and such don't work on this illness and it's pretty nasty.

Oh Tron, don't be paranoid; ain't no medical emerg out here. Sure we've had a few cases (2 dead) but I've been out all day, all over the city and I didn't see one person wearing a mask...cept that ugly chic at the cosmetic counter.

Get your ass out here. Just don't visit any asian restaurants (but that goes for most of the world right now).

Ain't nothin' 2 it but 2 do it!

The 6 o'clock news said that there are reported cases in Minnesota now, but I never worry about things like this.

But this just isn't A concert. Annie hardly EVER tours the U.S. and I've never seen her. I've been an avid fan for five years now, collecting EVERYTHING. Getting into her has meant a lot to me and my confidence. I shaved my head and died my hair because of her, and I haven't gone back to my natural colors since. Annie means a lot to me and this concert arguably might have been the most important musical moment of my life. I've been dreaming about it at night.

No, but it is still a major disappointment and a big waste of money.

Now come on man that isn't fair or close to accurate. The disease which has been fairly limited in its killing power has pretty much been spreading everywhere so what difference does it make if you go to Toronto or stay wherever you happen to be?

Like I said earlier now it appears there are cases in Minnesota.

Also, didn't you ever see Outbreak? If we don't bomb Toronto and China the entire world will be dead or dying within a week big grin

My parents if we decide to go. We have to go through their city anyway to cross the Canadian bridge.
