‘American Idol’ Creator Simon Fuller Hints Show Will Return in 2018

Fifteen years after its first season, show creator Simon Fuller accepted the the Governors Award on behalf of Idol at the 2016 Creative Arts Emmy Awards last night (September 11). And, according to Billboard, he used the opportunity to turn to FOX Broadcasting CEO Dana Walden and plant a powerful TV-seed.

“It’s been 15 years, and this is the first Emmy we’ve actually won for the show. Can you believe that?” he said. “Dana, thank you for bringing the show back in 2018. We can’t wait to make it.”

What do you think? I wish it'd go away and stay away.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It would be a decent performer for Fox given the state of Network TV, but they'll never create another c-list (or higher) pop star.

I thought they'd wait at least 5 yrs. I knew it'd be back, but not this soon. Just too soon.

Carrie Underwood is the last winner who went on to have a big career and that was like Season 4??? I can't really name any of the winners after that season. I liked the gal who won during the season Mimi was a judge but it took so long for her album to get released and it ended up being a huge disappointment.

I'm sure the producers want to bring back Idol in some type of format. It will probably be revamped in some way to attune for social media, which was embryonic when the show began but started to affect the outcome of shows around season nine. By that point Idol went from setting trends in music and entertainment to struggling to keep up with them. You can thank the likes of Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, and Justin Bieber for stealing the thunder of Idol with social media.
