Can u believe this? I went for a job interview yesterday at a school here in Bangkok.

One question on the application form read:

Do you profess Jesus Christ as your lord and saviour?


There were tick boxes for 'yes' and 'no'. I didn't know this stuff really went on. So basically if I say no I have no hope of getting the job.

This sucks doesn't it? Tell me it sucks won't u?

I take it that it's not a Thai company then.

Just lie and tell them what they want to hear if you really want the job.

When you start there tattoo 666 on your scull and vomit alot. That ought to get them running around a bit.

I'm sure that I'm able to lie to get the job, and don't really have any moral issues with that. BUT, if I do lie then I have to consider the fact that I'll have to work here for a year and I'll have these bible bashers bashing me over the head with their bibles every day.

The head of the school gave me three books. One of them was titled:

"Act Now! How To Be A Walking Advertisement For Jesus Christ"


Now come on.

There are only so many lame analogies to cereal ads that I can take. The book is almost certaily the most hilarious piece of literature I've ever read.

It's unfair to dog the school that you knew going in that it's a Christian school. It would have been different if you had no idea.

Lie if you need the job. Just to keep from going crazy from all that bible thumping, I'd leave a few pieces of "literature" lying around like oh say...Hustler, Penthouse, Swank, or anything by L. Ron Hubbard. [This message was edited Fri Apr 4 5:11:57 PST 2003 by NovaAngel]

If it was a Christian school, and you knew it was when you went for the interview, you shouldn't be so surprised or annoyed by such a question. Just as if you went to apply for a job at any other instituation or business that is based on a particular religious doctrine, or is affiliated with such -- the religious affiliation connected to the business/institution is what kind of atmosphere such a place is going to have and going to to propegate.

If you feel it's going to bother you to be beaten over the head every day with bibles by a bunch of bible bashers - when you are trying to get a job at a CHRISTIAN SCHOOL - seems kinda ridiculous. Don't work there if you disagree with the school's religious tone or atmosphere. It wouldn't make you happy, and it really wouldn't be fair to them.

For example, if being around the Jewish faith or Jewish attitudes bugged me and I disagreed with it's teachings, I wouldn't go try to get a job at a Jewish based institution and then walk around griping about how Jewish faith was being shoved in my face all the time. See my point? I don't mean to be disrespectful to you, but doing that makes no sense to me.

Good luck in your job hunt. I hope you find someplace that would be a better fit for you.

They inject Jesus Christ into every subject they teach, and I honestly can't see the benefit of forcing children down one particular path when there are so many they might want to choose from. It's just stunting the growth of individuals. I'm not going to say Christianity is in any way invalid, or inferior to other religions, but in this case it certainly fosters some rather narrow-minded, controlling people.

The people I met in the church were power-hungry, judgemental and self-righteous. I was in the office with my friend (a Christian) and the the head of the school, and had to sit through an unbelievable diatribe about how the church had split and how terrible this man was who had led the other faction. This right here, I thought, is the church. I have respect for the bible, but the church is all about power, back-stabbing, and superficially doing good while taking as much for yourself as u can.

This man had cut and pasted all these parts of the bible in order to make a handout about the 'false teacher' just to make a point about the man he had a dispute with.

Seems to me that Christians would be better off without the church, instead staying at home to read their bibles, free from all the corruption and bullshit that the church necessarily involves.

My Christian friend agreed that the experiences we had at that school were 'sad'.

I'd warrant the 'best' Christians probably aren't even professing Christians. I think most people have moral values but don't force them in other peoples faces since they have no reason to be defensive and spend their time actually living by them rather than talking about them. Why recite and reconfirm these morals to yourself every day if not to try in vain to convince yourself you're not the immoral person deep down that u know u are?
