I wonder if any boss would actually fall for this?

Tell your boss that, instead of being paid a salary for the rest of your working life, you'll settle for only being paid for one month, and one month only, in the following manner;

On the first day of the month, you only require a pay of 1cent/pence for the day.
On the second day of the month, you only require double that amount - 2cents/pence for the day.
And then, on each day of the month, you'll get double the previous day's money (Day 3 = 4cents/pence. Day 4 = 8cents/pence etc. etc.) for only 30 days. After which, you won't ask for any more pay, ever.

Now, work out how much money you will have received by the end of the month!

And, of course, bear in mind that the previous day (day 29)you would have received half of that amount on top of that, and a half again the previous day...
