I had this one when I was in 1st grade or so... By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I qualified for free lunch though, so I didn't use it that often.

I didn't get the free lunch but the cafeteria lunch was cheap--35 cents. It was cooked by real cafeteria ladies in real pots and pans and served on real plates with real utensils. I had an old Laugh In lunch box that had, "Sock it to me!" on it. But packing a lunch was considered a rare treat since school lunch was so cheap and hot and (lol) "nutritious." Murica: at least it's not Sudan.

You must be an old head like me. Milk was two cents, and the food was GOOD! Where did you grow up? I grew up in South Jersey, and one of my favorites was pork roll. The ladies also made a slammin mac and cheese with creamed stewed tomatoes. We also had real grilled cheese sandwiches. The tuna fish sandwiches and tomato soup was the bomb. too. Spaghetti with meat sauce was made fresh, no Chef Boyardee shit out the can. Damn, I miss that food! [Edited 8/22/16 14:22pm]

I did have one of these in grammar school. It had the thermous, too. Mom used to fill the thermous with soup. She usually made either a bolony or olive loaf sandwich with mayo, put a few Oreo cookies in wax paper and added celery sticks or carrot sticks and an apple. I hated apples back then and would always throw it away.

I had one of those plaid checkerdy things too. I remember only ever playing with it, though, not carrying a lunch in it. Murica: at least it's not Sudan.

From the Mid-West. We had a choice between chocolate milk or regular. I was a weird kid--I didn't like chocolate milk. My favorite lunches I remember were the deep dish pan pizza, hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes, and fish and chips. I really liked the school lunch because my single father Dad couldn't cook. Except for pancakes and barbecue in the summer. Got tired of eating Dinty Moore Beef Stew out of a can. We also had Tang (the drink of astronauts lol) instead of orange juice, Velveeta instead of cheese, and powdered milk instead of real milk. . I don't remember any cafeteria ladies looking like this but a couple came darned close.
