Suicide Squad (possible spoilers)

I won't spoil anything here in the first post on this thread but anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet can probably expect spoilers in the subsequent posts so be warned.

Before seeing the film I was a bit hesitant. The negative reviews I've read kind of dampened my enthusiasm but then I remembered that Dawn of Justice also got bad reviews and despite it being far from perfect, I liked it. So I thought I'll just make my own mind up. So, went to see it tonight and I have to say, it's definitely not as bad as some critics have made it out to be. It has some of the same problems Dawn of Justice had, for example, bad pacing and the story not focusing on the strongest characters but overall, it was fun, at times exciting and features two cool cameos (as I said, I'm not spoiling anything in this post). Jared Leto is really good as the Joker but unfortunately doesn't get much screen time. Will Smith was quite good and I normally don't like him in movies. Harley Quinn was kind of disappointing for me. She's sexy as all hell but this portrayal is miles behind the animated series version.

All in all, the movie is good but not great. Make sure you stick around for a nice mid credits scene too

She's good. Nowhere near as good as the animated series version though. The accent seems to come and go at will. But when she looks as good as she does, it's tough to be too hard on her. I've always liked Margot Robbie. Even back when she was in Neighbours (the Australian soap opera, not the shit Zac Efron movie)

Have you seen Suicide Squad yet?

It's funny, I've read reviews where it was written that she had the ONLY great performance in the movie. The critics demanded she get her own feature film centered around her character. No doubt sexy actresses often get more attention than they should, simply because of their looks. But at times they are not given due credit for a great performance, simply because they are so attractive.

I plan to see this movie this week, will let you know what I think wink

Like I say, she's good, just not as good as the animated series version. Giving her her own movie would be pushing it a bit but I could definitely imagine her and the Joker as villains in the next Batman movie. Personally, I thought Jared Leto gave the best performance. He's different from Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger but kind of like what you'd get if you crossed the two of them and added a bit of Mark Hamill. Shame most of his scenes were cut... The lady who plays Amanda Waller is fantastic too. And even Will Smith, who I don't like, was good.

That's true about Jared, the critics said the same thing ... great performance but way too small a part to have much of an impact on the film.

I enjoyed this movie very much. It was like watching the animated series coming to life, once again. The direction established with Man of Steel and BvS is felt throughout the film. Any of these characters can easily slip into one another's movies with ease. I did not know anything about Suicide Squad before viewing this film. Harley Quinn, Killer Croc (animated series) and Katana (Beware the Batman), were the only characters I was familiar with.

First things first… the most obvious standout of the film, Ms. Harley Quinn. Margot Robbie, NAILS IT!!! I couldn’t imagine any other actress, bringing Harley to life, at this magnitude. With an awesome performance by Jared Leto as the Joker, I was watching the “Mad Love” comic book come to life on the big screen. It was amazing, and I am super impressed!!! Jared Leto… WOW! There is no comparing him with previous actors, as he took the Joker in a completely different direction than ever shown before. He made the role unique, and completely his own! He wasn’t scheming against Batman or Gotham City, he was simply trying to get his Harley, yet there were scenes established, that you could see this Joker, killing Jason Todd. His presence throughout the film, reminded you why Harley does what she does.

Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Diablo, Echantress, Amanda Waller, Rick Flag, Killer Croc (Hitu from Ace Ventura When Nature Calls), were all well cast and played their parts well. None of them seemed to be miscast and a waste of a good character, like Mercy Graves in BvS. I have to applaud the film makers for having the balls to stick to comic book source material, even more so than Marvel does with their films.

Batman’s presence was felt throughout the film and tied the universe together. It made the story better for me as well.

Yeah, I thought Jared Leto was really good but he wasn't in it enough. Hopefully he'll be the main villain in the next Batman movie. Esepcially if they're doing that Arkham Asylum movie that's been rumoured. I could definitely imagine him and Harley taking over the Asylum. And before Batman can get to them he'd have to get past the other inmates.
I agree that it was very much like the animated series, which to me, is still the definitive Batman.

Is the Mad Love comic you mentioned similar to the Mad Love episode of the animated series?

nod

Yes, the animated series did an episode based on the book.

I disagree about the Joker's screen time. It helped the movie imo. Since he is not part of the "Squad," his character had enough time to convince you that Harley loved this maniac. But I do agree with you, they would be perfect as the villains in any upcoming Batman film.

I've just seen the film and on the plus side I have to say it I prefer this film to Batman Vs Superman, not once did I look at my watch (usually when I do that in a movie theatre that means I'm losing interest in what I'm watching). Margot Robbie is a scream as Harley Quinn, she should get her own film with the Joker....like a Bonnie & Clyde type of film. Is Jarad Leto better than Heath Ledger as the Joker? The answer is No, but he made the role his own, with the amount of time he had on the screen. But the stand out for me was Viola Davis as Amanda Waller....she is a cold hearted bad ass and the real villain of the film. I think she is an amazing actress (How To Get Away With Murder? is one of my fav shows......give her another Emmy Now!) Everyone else was solid as well. The only negative for me was the overuse of songs in nearly every scene, and a cliché ending. I would like liked so see the Squad join forces with the Enchantress and that would have been a cool cliff hanger, and a great lead into The Justice League Film. I give it a 4 out of 5 popcorn I will now look forward for the Blu Ray to watch all the extras etc when its released later this year.

I read the mixed reviews, but said f' it I'll go and make up my own mind.
I suck at reviews lol but here my thoughts

The joker was cool. But we dont get enough of him
HQ : cute, funny. Acting wise she did a good job
Will smith : not a fan at all, but he did a good job as well
Story : ehhh.... lol lacking
The music was annoying, i mean must we hear music or theme songs sverytime we see a villan or a fight?

Over all..
i thought i would like it more, it could have been better. :/
It wasnt bad or great
Maybe a R rated version might work better

The kids enjoyed it, sait it was Awesome lol
Cant believe my purple psychedelic pimp slap pimp2

And I descend from grace, In arms of undertow
I will take my place, In the great below

I definitely agree about the overuse of music. It's like it was trying to compete with Guardians Of The Galaxy for best soundtrack. It just wasn't needed and was kind of distracting.
I seen the movie again last night and whereas I initially thought the Joker wasn't in it enough, I've changed my opinion on that a bit. Sure, I'd like to see more of him but the story wasn't about the Joker. Putting extra Joker scenes in might have distracted too much from the Suicide Squad vs Enchantress story.

Yes we are quite a litigious society these days ...

http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/08/09/suicide-squad-moviegoer-suing-warner-bros-for-falsely-advertisin/

Disgruntled by Suicide Squad's so-called false advertising, the moviegoer is sharing his plans to sue Warner Bros. & DC Entertainment for wrongly showing some of The Joker’s scenes in its preview trailers.

Posting to r/movies, the user had lots to say about how fed up he is with Suicide Squad and Hollywood’s tendency to delete scenes shown in trailers. He writes, “Suicide Squad trailers showcased several SPECIFIC Joker scenes that I had to pay for the whole movie just so that I can go watch those SPECIFIC SCENES that WB/DC had advertised in their trailers and TV spots...Non [sic] of these scenes were in the movie. I drove 300 miles to London to go watch these specific scenes they had explicitly advertised in their TV ads...and they didn't show them to me.”

Hahaha. You have to admire this guy's enterprise. So he thinks that it's OK to sue every movie studio that cuts a trailer for their movie, often months in advance of the final edit, which features scenes that don't appear in the final cut? In that case, they'd ALL be sued. But still, the world would be a more boring place without these idiots so more power to him.

I spent all year looking forward to this movie, but I'm a sucker for checking reviews (bad habit) and they completely put me off. Plus, it seems Jared Leto's part is quite smaller than I thought, so I may just wait and catch this later on confused

Don't let reviews put you off. They're just other peoples opinions. The only opinion that counts is your own. Personally, I liked the movie. You may like it or you may not but you won't know until you see it.
Jared Leto may not feature much but the movie is called Suicide Squad, not The Joker featuring the Suicide Squad. The few scenes he does have are quite cool though. He's only really there is establish the character in the universe and I thought he did a great job of that. It certainly made me look forward to the next Batman movie.

As I find out more about the Suicide Squad team and the comics, I am even more impressed with the film. They really adhered to the comic book material.

In this day and age of superhero movies, it is extremely refreshing to see these movies being brought to life, directly from the pages. I have to scratch my head, at what seems to be such harsh criticism of the movie. It's a comic book movie, what the hell do you want??? They are well done as just they are!

I love both world's of DC and Marvel. But the Marvel films usually fall flat (except Winter Soldier), and do not follow the comics as well as DC films have been doing, ever since Snyder took the helm. I'm looking forward to ALL the DC films coming down the pike!

There seems to be some concerted effort to sabotage the DC movies. Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad are far from perfect but they are enjoyable movies and nowhere near as bad as a lot of reviews have made out. Though even the bad reviews have praised Ben Affleck as Batman and Jared Leto as The Joker so I wonder what excuse they'll use to criticise the next Batman movie.

I was just thinking the same thing. An article on yahoo says Suicide Squad fans deserve a better movie. I didn't even read the article yet. A day or two ago some anonymous person has bashed the Wonder Woman movie. Accusing them of hiding behind it's great trailer. Director Patty Jenkins lashed out on twitter. I love her fire and her passion. She also lashed out defending Suicide Squad

I've been a DC fan for a long time but I like Marvel (as well as Image, Milestone, Valiant,Impact, Dark Horse, Defiant) I've notice Man of Steel, BvS, and now Suicide Squad gets slaughtered by critics unjustly in my opinion. BvS isn't perfect but what movie is? I liked it an MOS a lot. Man of Steel and Batman v Superman both outperformed Captain America: First Avenger, Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Iron Man, Iron Man2, Incredible Hulk and Ant-Man at the box office world wide..

It seems Man of Steel numbers 668million and BvS 872 million are considered flops but a Marvel movie performing slightly less or with the same numbers is a huge hit. Smh. Doesn't make since to me.

No disrespect to Marvel . I really liked Iron Man 3, Ant-Man, Dark World,Avengers:AoU & Winter Soldier .

yeahthat now with all this drama surrounding Wonder Woman (2017) it makes you go hmmm https://www.yahoo.com/mov...84726.html IMO the trailer looked really good to me (and I loved the 70s tv show with Lynda Carter).
