Why hasn't the U.S switched to the metric system?

I remember back in elementary my teacher was telling me that the U.S would switch to metric to be in line with the rest of the world. What happened?

the US doesn't need the metric system. we're smart enough to do our measurements without having them laid out in neat little increments of 10's biggrin

Good old-fashioned arrogance and resistance to change. I doubt we'll move from Imperial measurements anytime in my lifespan.

If you ever watch TV shows like Scrapheap Challenge, it is always really funny when they have an American team. Because they are mixing loads of different conventions and unit systems, and getting really confused biggrin Hilarious. Switch to the metric system you twats!

actually it's because of track that I actually understand metrics better than our English units, or whatever the hell they are

by the way, I ran the 200 and got my ass whooped every single fucking time

I wouldnt mind switching at all, the metric system is a no-brainer. Its easier said than done to just tell everyone to switch.

I remember at least one NASA probe got destroyed cuz one team working on it didn't use the metric system, like the rest of them did.
