Why Do You Care about what people think of you?

If you are "truly" living YOUR life...what people see and percieve is irrelevant...RIGHT??

True... the only time I care is when people perceive something about me when they don't know the truth and continually tell me about what they think they see and won't listen to the reality... mostly it bothers me because it is annoying... or when people tell lies for no apparent reason. Otherwise, I could care less.

Depends on your values. I value community in general, and this community specifically, so I care that people here treat each other with kindness and respect for the sake of the community.

We are all affected by other people. Keeping a positive balance is key.

I have a really serious reason for caring what people think of me.
I really want to set a good example for those who listen to me.
This includes my children, and those with whom I share the Bible's message.
It is important to me that my life reflects the teachings of Christ.
If it were just ME I was concerned about...I would not care what anybody thinks;
But it's not all about me.
Melody
So...how's everybody doing? smile

I think it's more of a vanity, insecure issue Dex was talking about...looks, jobs, measuring up, etc..You are correct thinking about it sort of being your...word that is important...besides family that is all we have..

I don't tend to care about what people think of me if I don't know them, or don't care for their opinions. However, I can't say I don't care what my wife, my close friends and family think of me because I give their opinions some weight. These are people that know me and care about and sometimes just maybe they know best. smile

For the most part, yes, but there are times when it's in my self-interest for other people to perceive me in a certain way. For example, if I'm in court making oral argument on a motion, I want the court to perceive me as a good, competent lawyer, and not the attorney from My Cousin Vinny. lol

If people really care about you then what they think of you can be very important. They can tell you how you behave in certain situations which you may not be aware of. So I'm talking about feedback.

I care somewhat...strangers...nah...I don't care but as Melody has said sometimes life does call for you to care about what people think about you and Dex, I'm sure you care about how your students view you because it's important to teaching. We all care on some level.

Since I am a good person,I want people to know that Dex called me two days ago, we chatted last night, I went to call him, and my long distance had been shut off for lack of payment, because I went to Sweden,am very broke, and can't afford to pay it.In this case I do care about what others think of me,because I would never diss anyone, and try to be a man of my word. Sorry brotha..

i know the truth about me and the people who know me do too.

but, when it comes to knowing other people i prefer simply stereotyping them all in adavance. putting them neatly into my own categories. i have NO desire to take the time and invest the energy to actually get to know them before stereotyping them, as that would involve me making an effort.

it's much easier for me to just 'blueprint' people in the world. nod wink

EXACTAMUNDO!!! I just told a few peeps in here the other day the popularity contests ended after highschool... Be your own person. Who cares what anybody thinks or says about you as long as you are comfortable with yourself! Anybody that makes the time to talk behind your back or negatively to your face might be envious or jealous of you or insecure of themselves.
