Can Tyler Perry do his own version of a character that he doesn't have ownership of?

But why not highlight a DC superhero that is of African ancestry, instead of blackening Bruce Wayne

LOS ANGELES, Ca. – British actor and musician Idris Elba has landed the lead role in Tyler Perry’s upcoming adaptation of Christopher Nolan’s 2008 crime drama The Dark Knight, the actor’s publicist, Michelle Benson, confirmed on Tuesday. “Idris is thrilled to be a part of this project,” Ms. Benson told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s been a lifelong dream of his to portray Batman.”

Director Tyler Perry, whose previous films include Madea Goes to Jail and Diary of a Mad Black Woman, described himself as a die-hard fan of the Dark Knight Trilogy but said the film’s “distinct lack” of African-American actors inspired him to produce a remake. “We’ve got a great group of people working on this,” Perry told BET. “Kat Williams is playing the Joker. A lot of people said Heath Ledger made a great Joker, but I’m telling you now, wait until you see Kat.”

I'd thought this would be front page in the trades; I'm skeptical about the accuracy.

I'm even more skeptical about Tyler Perry directing this project, as opposed to another director.

Elba would be a great Batman.

My thoughts exactly. I don't think this report is true, however, if it was, as much as I love Idris, with Perry as director it would be straight up garbage.

A black Batman has already been done on TV and was kind of a failure:

i would rather see him as the green lantern than suddenly have

an "in a different universe" batman story...

even him as a 'bond' wouldn't take on the "in a different universe" premiss.

i didn't like what they did with the fantastic four...

to make such drastic changes takes skill these folks ain't found.

the only folks that pulled it off were in the x-men series...

but then, i like what i like...

I don't like Tyler Perry films that much.....the one's that janet were in were ok, but the rest pass

From what I read Black Lighting was supposed to be on the Super Friends but the creator said no so they created Black Vulcan instead

I Love Tyler, I Love Idris but I thought this thread was gonna be full-blown Satire, but this Shit is real....I don't care for any of Tyler Perry's comedy Shows and Dramas before & after they appeared on OWN...I like Madea but I'm not watching any of those movies more than once.....

Tyler's Silver Screen Crime-Drama Alex Cross FLOPPED.....I think Tyler should Produce the Film but he should NOT Direct or write the Screenplay...He needs to hire a Director that has YEARS of experience in the Genre and he needs to hire a Screenwriter that has YEARS of experience...

I'm not saying Tyler should not branch out of Directing/Producing Comedy Shows, Dramas and Comedy movies but his first Crime Flick is proof he needs to Produce and learn from his peers who Live & Breath that work...

Someone is going to remake a crappy movie? At best, all we can hope for is it's at least as crappy as the original. But more likely, it's going to be crappier than the original. That's what remakes do, increase the level of crappiness.

Just my two cents, I know many of y'all liked this movie. But then again, I'm still an Adam West kind of Batman fan!
