Batman: The Killing Joke I just seen the new animated Batman movie, The Killing Joke and as much as I liked Dawn of Justice, this was so much better. Granted, it's based off a very famous comic book (which I never read) so perhaps it was easier for the filmmakers to adapt, but I just wonder how it would have been received if instead of Dawn of Justice, Ben Affleck starred in a live action Killing Joke movie. It would have been R rated but Deadpool proved that is not a major obstacle to overcome in search of box office success.
I don't want to spoil anything for anyone not familiar with the story, but if you felt let down by Dawn of Justice then I'd definitely recommend The Killing Joke. |

Honestly I still think most of the animated stuff is better than live action. Animation is able to captured the feel better than live action does..........................and don't you think I forgot about that Harley Quinn picture.

I have my ticket. I will be viewing it in the theater tonight... ONE NIGHT ONLY!
This is the first time since 1993's Mask of the Phantasm, that a Batman animated movie is being shown on the big screen! I bought the The Killing Joke comic book back in '89, but not a big fan of the story.
Without posting any spoilers for those who have not read the graphic novel nor seen the movie... Batgirl is one of my favorite DC characters. This is the reason I do not care for this story and subsequent storylines that came after this. Tell me, do you bleed? You will! |

Surely a live action movie SHOULD be able to bring to life the stories from the comics. Maybe the right director or writer hasn't tried yet? I've said it before but I truly believe that the best version of Batman was the 90's animated series. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are the definitive Batman and Joker. And they're not the only thing that sets the 90's series apart from everything else. The writing was top notch. The Heart of Ice episode still gets to me. Harvey Dent's transformation into Two Face was handled a lot better than either of the movies in which he's appeared. And I'm looking forward to Suicide Squad but I have absolutely no doubt that Harley Quinn won't live up to the animated version. As for my own rendition of Harley Quinn, it's not particularly flattering, so IF I decide to show it, it will have to be by orgNote because there's no way I'd want that out in the wild. |

It's just they way I feel. I guess you can do more in animation than live action. Also animation they draw them (usualy) they way they should look and dress. I agree with you that the best version of Batman was the 90's animated series. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are the definitive Batman and Joker. OK for the org note |

That dude in the middle? THAT is Superman.
I can give the updated Batman a pass, because The Batman was originally dark. But Superman?
No. For me, Superman is, was and always will be that guy in the middle of this picture. Anything else is a poor imitation.

TAS is of course the best Batman on film. Perhaps WB should tap Bruce Timm to be in charge of the their current DCU movies. He's proven to be the best at adapting the universe to the screen.

Understood. Do you think the additional padding to the comic story for the movie worked? Seems to me the new elements were good for Batgirl. No? Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'... |

I enjoyed it, up until they crossed the line they did, between her and Batman.
I think it could have worked better and made her character stronger, had they made Batgirl all about taking care of business. When they started making it personal, with Francesco and then Batman... that took a weird turn for me.
Tell me, do you bleed? You will! |

I think it took a weird turn for the characters, too. Thought that was kind of the point.
It really fits into Bruce Timm's DCverse for me, beyond the lead actors, in that there was some inappropriate tension between the two characters in some of the later episodes of BTAS, and seemed to be unspoken issues between them in Batman Beyond. I think what they did here fits neetly between those two series.
It wasn't "right". But it works.
