Chucking it all/the white picket fence

People without repsonsibilities and some on the roadside. Sometimes I wonder if they actually have it all. Sometimes I listen to my friends and listen to the talk of lawns, sprinkler systems and PTA meetings. I sometimes want to vomit. Not that thats a bad thing (lawns,PTA, and kids etc) but I want something more. In america its a cliche' to strive for and end up with a house with a white picket fence, 2 cars in the garage and 2 kids. I want something more (or less depending on ones views) than that. I want to be able to fly somewhewre on a moments notice, to do things out of the ordinary. A 9 to 5 shake There's more to life. 9 to 5 equals being a machine to me. The white picket fence equals mediocority to me. Lawns on Saturday. It's a good feeling but its not a complete or satisfying feeling imo..I know there's something more out there and Im gonna strive for it. I hope to make a difference in due time , sooner or later. Cant do that sitting behind a desk or punching a clock . Although those who do are everyday heroes. I just cant deal with it in that way. Rock n roll baby. You wanted real I gave real.

i think it's about balance... my girl and i own a home(i mean we're paying it off) but we still find the time to rock... at the end of the day, it's just "stuff" ... we made a commitment before we bought the house, that if it took over our lives, or got in the way of our happiness, we'd just sell it... it hasn't happened so far smile

Here is the song RDhull. I been feeling this lately:

THROW IT ALL AWAY (by Toad the Wet Sprocket)

take your cautionary tales
take your incremental gain
and all the sychophantic games
and throw 'em all away

burn your tv in your yard
and gather 'round it with your friends
and warm your hands upon the fire
and start again

take the story you've been told
the lies that justify the pain
the guilt the weighs upon your soul
and throw 'em all away

tear up the calendar you've bought
and throw the pieces to the sky
confetti falling down like rain
like a parade to usher in your life
take the dreams that should have died
the ones that kept you lying awake
when you should've been all right
and throw 'em all away

with the time i waste on the life i never had
i could've turned myself into a better man

'cause there ain't nothing you can buy
and there is nothing you can save
to fill the whole inside your heart
so throw it all away
won't fill the whole inside your heart

help me empty out this house
the wool i've gathered all these days
and thought i couldn't do without
and throw it all away

the thing of it is ..you need money--financial security to throw it all away in some respect. I mean money is the difference between not giving a shit and being free of society and its restraints. Having money is th e difference betwen being a bum on the street and being free period. Thats why Marlon Brando has it good and did the smart thing--he made his millions and bought a fuckin island in Tahiti (or rents lol) and stays the hell there lol. Tom Cruise etc making 20 mil a pic and still making moves and being on the scene..wtf...give me 5 mill and I will disappear from the face of the earth lol

I really liked thier(Toad The Wet Sprocket) All I Want song but everytime it came on I thought I was gettin ready to hear So Alive by Love and Rockets

Well I think everybody is looking for something just a little bit deeper then what we call life, cuz after you have it all then you realize just how much you don't really have at all. This is why my own personal beliefs in God is so very important to me, cuz i know underneath it all, all the things we see in this life time is only temporary and there's only one way to eternal happiness. No I didn't read this from a fortune cookie lol

But I need to make sure I can be all I can be in this life on earth...and a 9 to 5 doesn't allow that for some. For some a 9 to 5 and a family and a yard is enough for them. I want sirloin of life. I need to be more than that ..thats God imho.

Actually you don't. You need to unplug yourself from the Matrix(society) and find a way to get food. That is really all you need. You won't live in a way that is comfortable to you because you have become dependant on the system. Peopl probably thought they were living it up in the stoneage. All in your mind.

look at this way... you've done everything for you life on the outside, got pretty much everything you want, but what do you have for the inside, except for the empty feeliing inside? This is why you gotta ask yourself the true definition of success cuz there plenty of rich people who aren't happy yet there are plenty of people who have nothing that apprecaites life...

Whoaaa slow your roll lol..I never said "I feel empty inside". I said I wont put up with what I deem as mediocrity. I wondered why u added that God stuff earlier. Im not empty inside beleive me. Im just saying I see others fullfilled with the simple things in life like mowing the grass and talking about sprinkler heads and how that aint enough for me.

maybe not what you are talking about, but...
i sort of did that back in 1994. i owned a house had a good job that was stable and satisfying, but my dream when i was a kid was to become a doctor. it is what i really wanted to do,

so i sold my home, went back to school at night for close to 5 years while continuing my job. i finally finished all the pre-med requirements and applied to med school and was accepted at age 40. in a month, i will be i will be a physician, and will move to portland, oregon for residency.

how it differs from the basic gist of your post, is, however, this decision has required way more hard work than continuing along with the "white picket fence", those days were easy. while this path is much harder work, it is just way cool, and i don't regret it in even the smallest way.
