Soar Throat Without End!

Let's see what medical advice I can get from orgers...

I've had a flu for the past 3 or so weeks now, and one symptom that I just can't bear to live with anymore is my soar throat. It feels swollen, my doctor said it was red, and the sides of my neck are swollen too. Swallowing is really painful, and I can't sleep because of the pain.

Someone told me to gargle with salt water, so I've tried that a few times and it seems to help for a short period of time... But I want this to go away! For good! Wah wah wah!

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers!

I'm sorry you are feeling sick.

You apparantely already saw your doctor, but..did he/she do a mononucleosis test on you? What you described sounds exactly like how I felt when I had mono.

As for the sore throat relief, the salt water can help but not always, especially if the pain is coming from swollen glands when you swallow.

I know this sounds dumb, but when I had mono the swollen glands/sore throat was what was killing me, too, and I finally found some relief by putting ice on my neck. I think they ice helped either numb the glands or shrink how swollen they were. Whatever it was, it did help.

Otherwise, throat lozenges, popsicles, pain relievers, and hot soup are all I can think of to recommend for some relief. And lots of rest.

I hope you feel better soon.

I've had a sore throat for over a week now too! I took some of my moms left over antibiotics last week and it went away in a day. Then two days ago it all came back again out of the blue.

Thanks for the advice AmethystAngelMN! A popsicle sounds like a great idea!

Yes, my doctor tested me for mono, but that's not the problem. I'll just be patient for a few more days. I think I'm getting better...

try a prpoduct called 'chloraseptic', sold at drugtores w/out prescription.

it is a local anesthetic which deadens the nerves in your throat and stops pain.

You're welcome. smile

I'm glad you don't have mono. And I'm glad you're getting better..viruses can hang on for quite awhile sometimes, so just be a patient patient. smile

Enjoy your popsicle and keep feeling better.

Maybe you have strep throat? I had it once and the pain was unbelievable. Did your doctor give you antibiotics? That's probably what you need.

go see a doctor, 'cause there is some new bugs goin round the world... and the only way to keep track of it is for diagnoses to be made.

That shit is going around. One of the doctors I work with gave everyone the flu, and it comes with this neverending sore throat. You think it's gone, and three weeks later it is back. It's so friggin' weird.

I've been doing the honey-lemon tea bit. A little splash of brandy won't hurt any either.

I just went to tyhe Dr. today with the same thing!

Sore throat so unbelievably painful! I woke up the morning

in tears cause I couldnt swallow...

I have streap throat! Got my antibiotics and Cepacol w/

Benzanine. The Benzanine will numb it pretty good and also

motrin has been helping a ton with the pain and

inflammation! Hope you dont have streap but that cepacol and

motrin will help with the pain.

Hope you get better soon!!

I have the same thing, luv4thepurple1! I went back to the doctor today, and apparently it was clear to him that I have strep throat. So I've got the drugs to cure it and should be fine soon. Phew!

The first time I saw him I only had the fever and was feeling tired, so he thought it might be mono or some other virus. I guess that's why he didn't give me drugs.

When I'm completely over this, I am SO going dancing like a madman!! WEEE!!
party

And I'll eat some real food for a change! No more SOUP!
