I speak fluent Irish, for all the good that does me... Very few people in Ireland, especially in Dublin, speak Irish so I don't speak it much.

My native language is Dutch, I learned English, French and German at school and Spanish in Latin America, although English is the only language I speak fluently. And I know kidogo sana (a tiny bit) of Swahili.

Isn´t it actually called Gaelic ? Is Irish the official name of that language?

I speak English, Turkish and German fluently, and I used to speak French fluently but have forgotten most of it but I can still speak some very basic French, and it doesn´t really take long for me to get into it again. I can also understand Dutch in written form, and sometimes I understand what Spanish speaking people are talking about in conversations.

But the languages I´m really fluent in are English, Turkish and German.

Gaeilge is the Irish word for Irish but since the rest of my post was in English, I thought it would make more sense if I just said Irish. smile

For what it's worth though, it's very rare that you'll actually hear an Irish person say "Gaeilge", and I've never heard an Irish person say "Gaelic" in a serious conversation when referring to the Irish language. We just say "Irish".

Born and raised in Germany, both parents Turkish, spent some time in Turkey as a kid, been there more than 40 times, also spend a lot of time with American friends during my teenage years, and even as a little kid I always had the strong desire to learn the English language, and it helped that I listened to a lot of music and sometimes spent day and night with American friends....mostly Army brats who used to live in Germany. Some of them are still my friends to this day.

I like all three languages equally. Sometimes I prefer one over the other, depending on the situation, or sometimes I like to hear one language and prefer reading the other, or speaking....it all depends on my mood , the people and the situation.

I also stayed in a Spanish speaking country for a while. I didn´t actively learn the language but in written form it is prettty close to French so I do understand a bit of Spanish and would love to learn it one day , or brush up on my French, or both.
