Dwight Howard (link is not safe for work)

ESPN is reporting that Dwight Howard has signed with the Atlanta Hawks, which means two
things in my book:

the two qualities

All that talk about him wanting to win and grow and develop as a player was dogshit. I would
have respected him more if he just came out and said: "I want the scrilla and I don't want
the burden of winning a championship even though I want to be the offensive focal point."

I love court side mics.

I wish the players played mic'd up. I'd just about die in order to hear the trash talk...

Them fools can get creative! This is not a very creative example... yet is still entertaining. A solid 'b**ch a** n*gg*,' is always worthwhile IMO. biggrin

Agreed. What's interesting is that Jeremy Lin stands there with no shock on his face which means
he's used to Black players calling each other "n*88a."

Anyways, I think Howard going to the Hawks is him taking the easy way out. I wouldn't want Dwight
Howard any where near my team if I'm a coach/GM/owner/player. He's too goofy and only plays for
fun. Even though the Showtime Lakers were fun to watch, they still wanted to kick your ass. Howard
wants to tickle your ass.

Dwight seems like a really nice dude, too nice for the NBA really. You have to have a ruthless no nonsense mentality to be a great and I don't think Dwight Howard has a mean streak in his little finger. He'd be ideal for like the Harlem Globetrotters playing the game for fun. Unless he turns up the intensity level to 11 and becomes more mean on the court I think he'll be remembered as a good player with a ton of untapped potential. You can't really hate on a super nice dude like Dwight though he'd be great as a NBA analyst with Chuck, Shaq et AL.

Agreed.

Look at Shaq: dude was a prankster and a comedian in the locker room. But I remember during
a segment on Inside the NBA, he said that although he was a jolly ol' fellow, when he was on the
court, he wanted to kill you. There are some guys who won championships who played with a
sense of joy (Magic) but I don't think he was as goofy as Howard is.

I think I could whup his ass, on the court and in a street fight; he's soft as fuck and the greatest
waste or physical stature I've ever seen. You could land an airplane on this shoulders. But he's
such a wimp!

Very good point about Shaq, hes a funny guy but above all he has that competitive spirit which made him a winner throughout his career. Dwight is a gentle giant, I wouldn't say he's a wimp because the nicest person in the world can snap and I don't think he'd stand idly by if somebody was really throwing shade at him or getting under his skin. I think he'd be a great TV presenter for children and in comedy TV show/movies that's what his next career trajectory should be. If we switched things up and this was about how bad ass Dwight was like Metta and getting into fights on the court and brawling with fans we'd be like smh what's wrong with that dude. But really I think Dwights a great role model for youngsters it's a shame though he's never maximised his talent and translated that into rings like Shaq and Magic did.

Yep, Shaq played with a chip on his shoulder. Dwight doesn't have that "dawg" in him - Kobe pretty much said so. Cats like Kobe, Bird, Jordan, Isiah - they have that iron will, that assassin mentality. They want to take your heart. Man, if I had Dwight's build and athletic ability, I'd be a wrecking machine, like Moses in '83 or Hakeem in '95. And I'd tell that chump Harden, "either get me the ball first or I'll fuck you up!".

Yea thats very true about Kobe, Mike, Larry and Isiah. Dwight could and should be a dominating force on the court. I'd like to see him toughen up and be demanding the ball and posterizing folks, but I don't know if he has a ruthless streak in him. I mean if you don't have any meanness in you, you can't really manufacture it. I'd like to have seen him go to San Antonio and see if Pop could make him a better player and not necessarily bring a mean streak out of him, but make him much more competitive. I also agree I'd be dunking on everyone and wanting to get a ring or more, because that's the pinnacle to be at the very top. To be considered alongside Jordan, Bryant, Russell, Bird, Johnson et al you have to win rings and have that champion spirit. If Dwight Howard had more like a KG type attitude he'd have a handful of rings and him and Kobe would won have the NBA championship when they played together at the Lakers.
