PeteSilas

Muhammad Ali

Hector Camacho

Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Lee

Prince

Elvis

Malcolm X

Little Richard

Terence Trent D'arby

many more...

Sugar Ray Robinson

James Dean

Marvelous Marvin Hagler

Alexis Arguello

ironically, when i think about it, alot of them kind of had problems just trying to maintain the image that they were for longer than they should have. A good portion of these guys died from self-destructive things.

To be honest Prince is my Number one always -

but I also loved:

Michael Jackson

Whitney

Madonna

In fact I followed MJ & Madonna before Prince to be honest (but I say I saved the best til last and at a time I was fully able to move from the pop sounds of MJ & Mads to more mature tastes- hehe).

And also being an Aussie girl, I have always loved Kylie Minogue, because she has managed to succeed in her career without much drama and she overcome some terrible health issues and always seems to be a nice person regardless.

I like Beyonce too - but I dont like the "commercial" side of her and it kind of detracts from her talent to me......but she is an amazing singer.

Poor Madonna is not what she was of course but I feel she does her best, and she herself admitted from the start she was not the best singer anyway, but I loved her in the 90s and she kept my focus, until I really looked at Prince and then everyone else took a back seat to HIM !!!!!!!

But when MJ & Whitney passed away, I had a litttle tear for them, but with Prince it has cut deep and not a day goes by when there is not a tear or even down and outright sobbing. This one has been tough and I doubt that I will ever cry over someone like this again that is not in my own family.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Michael Jackson - had a huge influence on me as a kid, and even into my 20s.

Richard Bach (author) - his writing style & imagination always captivated me.

Janet Jackson - she's only 2 years older than me. I've not lived her life, but we've went through similar emotional journeys around the same time. Her music always speaks for her life at the time, and by proxy spoke for me, too.

Madonna - while some might balk at this (save it), for a quiet gay kid from the mid-south to see someone so brazen, and bold, and in your face when it came to HIV and AIDS and gay rights gave some of us courage to do the same. And a lot of gay guys will tell you that seeing two of her dancers plant one on each other in Truth or Dare changed their lives. To see two grown gay men, French kiss, on the big screen in a major motion picture in 1990 was life altering. I can't overstate that.

Stephen King - he's ......he's just the King of horror fiction, and I've enjoyed his books from day one pretty much.

Stephen Sondheim - not only do we share a birthday (along with Andrew Lloyd Webber and William Shatner), but I discovered him when I randomly checked out a record at the library called Company. I've loved that, and him, ever since.

Prince is the only one that changed my life. I have enjoyed other artists, but none have ever touched my life in the way Prince did. Through Prince I met lifelong friends, cannot say that about any other artist. Through Prince I began exploring eastern teachings and developed a closer relationship with God, through an introduction to one friend in particular. Other artists, I listened to their music, but none ever intrigued me in such a way that I ventured on to their websites, nor did I ever seek out more information about them, or join a fan site for them. He touched my life in so many ways, on so many levels, and no other artist has ever done that for me.

There was this time a random icon appeared on my desktop, a 32x32 pixel rendition of the words "THE RUB", with a small tick in the corner.

Out of sheer curiousity i clicked it and the tick turned to an X.

It was at that point I realised I had crossed the rubicon.

i wish i'd never kissed your lips, bearded lady

I'd say only three guys actually changed my life, one was Muhammad Ali, second was Hector Camacho and then Prince, everyone else pretty much came after them. I would have been a pro fighter if I could have found reliable people, never could so i stuck with music, too old for any sports now but I always tell people I was a better fighter than musician. Prince's influence was huge, really beginning with Little Red Corvette, which I still believe is up there with any rock song in history, just an unusually great song. Ever since then it's been a long obsession. Can you imagine how I feel? Losing these two men so close to each other? I'm so exhausted over Prince, I'm almost empty and can't even mourn my hero from the crib practically.

Interesting question. In music, besides Prince, it would be Bob Dylan. It's just the way he writes, his imagery...
The films of Sergio Leone also had a huge impact.
And then a few writers...
Wilbur Smith because he made me want to travel to Africa
Graham Hancock whose book Supernatural helped me find out about ayahuasca which also had a big impact on how I look at the world.

It's hard to put into words. It was in a maloca (big round hut) in the Amazon jungle close to Iquitos, Peru with a local curandero (healer) and a group of about twelve people from all over the world. The ceremony takes place in the evening, you drink a cup (tastes horrible) you lie down, the curandero starts to sing and then, in my case, I saw all sorts of colourful images. It makes you physically sick and everybody ends up vomiting. So it's not an alltogether pleasant experience but it opens up parts of your mind that otherwise remain closed.

Honestly, no other 'icon' has changed my life besides Prince, though a few non-famous people have. I would say though that without my parents eclectic musical tastes I doubt I'd have ever got into Prince. They were heavily into Howlin Wolf, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Abba, Gospel, Elvis, the Nolan Sisters, James Brown and Cliff amongst others. Also I was taken to loads of musical theatre when I was young. I used to sing most of the above loud and proud when I was young and still like most of them to this day (sorry Cliff, you dropped off my radar long ago). The only other musical 'icons' that have had a big impact on my life are the Beastie Boys as they gave me confidence as an awkward teenager.

I'm a huge fan of Maya Angelou. Love all her work. Same goes for Stephen King, but Prince is really the only person that has had a huge impact on my life.

ali and elvis loved each other, elvis spent a night at ali's camp. Bruce loved Ali and no doubt would have met him (maybe had an exhibition with him too) and been friends with him and vice versa. I always point that out to the small minded who say Bruce wasn't a real fighters, Ali and other "real fighters" respected the man because it takes one to know one. I also heard something about Elvis and Lee supposedly getting together to work on a project, nothing came of it. Elvis did however make an embarrassing biography called the gladiators when the kung fu boom hit america.

As far as I know, David Lynch is probably the only person on this planet who has managed to re-invent my perspective. Thanks to his movies, I can always pretend that many life events that I go through daily are somehow surreal, dark scenes from a film-noir of his making, and my making too.

Michael Jackson obviously, James Franco, David Bowie, Morissey, Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse.

Currently I'm under the spell of icon Azealia Banks, she offers a completely new style.
