Is it for your PC, or is it only for audio CDs? Do you want an internal or external one? (external are slower and more expensive). Can you install it yourself (it is quite easy)? What sort of PC do you have?

Don't doubt yourself so easily lol I have zero computer knowledge (the internal workings, etc.) & I installed mine. Wasn't hard but I'm not dying to do it again. Plus internals are cheaper, right Ian?

What model of Gateway PC - how old is it, what speed is the processor etc? You need to check what connectors you have at the back of your PC - do you have firewire, or maybe USB? If you don't, then you are going to need to open up your PC anyway probably so an internal is a better deal.

Honestly, your best bet is to bring your PC to an upgrade shop and someone to install an internal CD writer for you, if you are reticent about doing it yourself. I should tell you though - it is very easy to do, and it doesn't take much skill, so don't pay too much. A top-end internal IDE CDRW drive costs less than $40 nowadays.

I think what annoyed me was that I upgraded my memory, my modem & installed a new drive but I did them all separately. 3 trips inside my computer was a bit much for me, lol, but it really wasn't hard. Figure out what you want to do & think about installing it yourself if you wanna save $ biggrin Also, there's some good How To installation demos (video & print) @ sites like zdnet & cnet...

I'll give tech support on the Org if anyone wants to try it themselves biggrin Of course, if you break your PC it is your fault smile

I build all my PCs from scratch... once you've done a few, it's just like Lego.
