Rugby or Football

Which do you think is the rougher of the two? And what are the rules to Rugby? Just curious.

Hurling is fucking great fun, I played it at school as a kid. And it those days we didn't wear sissy helmets either!

Unfortunately, I've not seen much of Gaelic football as most of the attention is focused on basketball, American football, and baseball.

If you're referring to American football, I agree. Sorry, I was referring to soccer. Calling it football (soccer) just makes more sense to me.

That's a shame, coz American "football" and baseball are rubbish sports, with too many rules, too many players, and they keep stopping and starting. I don't get them at all smile

Check out http://www.gaa.ie to learn about Irish and Gaelic football smile

Thanks I'll check it out. American TV doesn't really give you any options. Baseball I don't understand at all. It seems that there's a lot of waiting around. American football has just gotten boring to me.

Over here it's called Shinty, and I've known a few guys who regret not wearing a helmet. Or, more so, their families do.

My Dad was good at it, won loads of medals. Me? Sissy all over, used to hate it when we were forced into it at school, spent half the time with my back to the ball!

Looks like it's dying as a sport though.

Ah it's not dying... we take it very seriously in Ireland!

As regards the helmet... a friend of mine once got hit with a sliotar (the name of the ball - a rock wrapped in hard leather basically haha) right between the eyes... he never was quite right after that.

Anyway if any of you ever have a chance either in Ireland or Scotland you should go watch a hurling match, very entertaining smile
