While I give her a little bit of credit for being upfront about it and not dodging that she was taking meldonium, it's so strange that someone who is so 'professional' (and a multi-million dollar business who's livelihood is her body) would not be more cautious about what she was putting into her body. It is a pity. She IS a great competitor but now there's this cloud about her past titles now. I do have to say I don't miss her at all from the tour (she is quite a one dimensional player, nevermind the shrieking) and from comments from other players, they aren't missing her either. |

I liked her too (except for the screeching I wish they could stop that altogether from the men's and women's tours) here is the actual report, its a page turner that's for sure http://www.itftennis.com/...231178.pdf
IMO the women's tour at the moment is one dimensional becase the majority of them have the same style of game, single forehand and two handed backhand....and sneaky tatics for eg, strategic toilet/injury breaks, illegal coaching from the stands etc. Also with tennis being such an endurance sport I wonder how many other players were using Meldonium before the ban? [Edited 6/8/16 22:16pm] There was a media report that Varvara Lepchenko served a 'silent' ban after also testing positive for meldonium according to a comment made in russian media by a trainer. She was already back playing at Roland Garros. If that is true then that would be really unfair to Sharapova - I guess with her huge profile she needed to be made an example of. |

Sharapova cheated, she knew it was a banned substance. Its been reported she was warned repeadtly to stop using.
http://www.businessinside...016-3?op=1
In fact Sharapova should have been suspended years ago, five warning? She would have been from banned from ever playing tennis again.

Serena wouldn't have gotten warned repeatedly.
Pat Cash right Sharapova did get off lightly.; ol' girl needs to stop lying and be grateful she's been kick to the curb for two years. What someone needs to investigate the arbitrary ruling of Tennis. Same shit went down with Andre Agassi... when he tested positive for meth. Agassi said, he took a sip from a friends pop can who had been smoking meth.
Good grief. |

It definitely appears arbitrary - Gasquet tested positive for coke and he said he got that from kissing a girl he met ![rolleyes](/i/s/icon_rolleyes.gif) and got off. Hingis got a 2 year ban for testing positive for the same. It was totally negligent of Sharapova and her team to claim to have ignored repeated warnings. But at the same time why would you intentionally take something you would know to be banned, especially during a Slam when you will be tested?? Anyway I doubt she'll win her appeal - she's a brawler and a fighter though. |

She chose to ignore the warnings then. She has only herself to blame. |

She chose to ignore the warnings then. She has only herself to blame. She's ultimately responsible for what goes in her body  This is a mistake that is literally going to cost her tens of millions of dollars, so I don't think she has got off lightly ![shrug](/i/s/icon_shrug.gif) |

At least it saves her getting beat by Serena a few times in the next two years. So there's a silver lining.
Having said that, Muguruza is the next big thing in the WTA. I'm convinced of that. |

Good grief.
Also with Agassi they (the ATP tour etc) kept the findings secret, it wasn't until he published his own autobiography that he admitted to testing positive to meth years after he retired. Keep Calm & Listen To Prince |

She is worth alot of money and at the moment her sponsors are sticking with her. So from a financial standpoint it won't hurt her. However it does put a dark cloud over her reputation as a player.....she wants to be remembered as a great competitor and a role model. Can she make a sucessful come back from this?
