When I was a kid in the seventies, I loved every moment that Muhammad Ali was on TV. He was smarter, faster, tougher than anyone I ever saw. I loved to hear him talk, I loved to hear him laugh. He made words come to life for me--when I later became interested in poetry and pursued my degrees in literature, I always thought of him as a lot of the reason why. I didn't mind seeing him box, but that wasn't the point for me.
I didn't know about his larger story, about Vietnam, about civil rights, about his Islamic faith--about any of that. I'm sure that was always part of who he was to many of you, but I didn't learn about any of that until years later (and I've spent a fair amount of time watching and learning). I don't even know that knew he was Cassius Clay before until I was older. To me, as a little kid, he was just the most alive person I'd see. Just incredible. He'd be on a prefight press conference, and he just ruled everything. He glowed. And he managed to still do that even in more recent years.
I've taken care of people with Parkinson's, I've watched them decline day by day. I'm glad he's not going through it anymore.
i never heard of Muhammad Dali but he seemed like a good person and if Prince liked him he must have been pretty good and maybe popular at one time like Prince...Dali looked like he was in awe getting to hang with Prince like that and i think that is very nice

More like Prince was in awe at hanging out with a legend like Mohammed Ali.
"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato
Such a beautiful photo. I've said this before but I'm glad that Muhammad Ali is up there now, taking care of Prince. There is such a father/son vibe between the two of them.

Climb the rainbow tree
To me he was more than a boxer. He was humorous. He had compassion for the common people. Man he meant alot more than that to me as a kid he was an inspiration. He always stayed true to his words. Like Presley he was poor and became a big superstar and still stayed humble. Him playing off the press in a smart funny engaging way made me smile. So much love for him and his family. A True Hero. RIHP My Brother.
I understand his impact on a global scale, especially refusing to fight in the Vietnam War during a time when boxers were bigger than life. But I'm an 80s/90s kid and by that time, Ali's impact was diminishing. I hope he is at peace, but my dad is torn apart - not me. And I kinda don't understand how any kiddies in this thread are similarly sad and wonder if some are simply over- reacting especially since boxing is no longer the sport it used to be and Ali has increasingly shrinked from the scene since his presence during the Atlanta Olympics.

That is such a lovely thought.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Really? Like, Prince's own father and mother couldn't be up there taking care of him? Ali's in heaven looking to care for Prince? Wouldn't it make more sense for Ali to pass away first so that he's in Paradise waiting to welcome Prince in as well? Ali taking care of Prince means that Prince went five or six weeks waiting alone in heaven for Ali to take care of him. That just really sucks, if you ask me. In the picture, it struck me as Ali petting Prince like he was some sort of zoo animal on account of Prince's perm, especially since Prince looks like a minty
chocolate chip member of Robin Hood's merry men.
People say the weirdest things when celebrities die. Now, if Iso said that Prince and Ali are in heaven, bathing and now resting in the comforting glory of God and finally at peace and in no pain, then I'd be touched!

It is a nice thought, however. Strange, but nice.

I didn't ask you. I have no idea why you would even think it's something worthy of debating?

I don't have to be asked a question directly in order to ask a question on my own. I thought it was a strange thing to say by someone trying too hard to be sentimental even though I understood the drive for saying it. If I told you what the drive was, I'd start a holy war in this thread so I'll just keep it to myself.

Who said I didn't have respect that Ali passed? Nothing in my post is disrespectful. I'm just honestly fascinated by the outpouring of grief on the account of a celebrity's death on message boards. It is utterly fascinating to me!

One of the only real and free black men ever is gone
He never feared the white man and he lived his entire life with that lack of fear. He had the courage to challenge white power and won. He willingly accepted the risk and with stood the slings and arrows. He refused to bend and he was never defeated.
And this all had nothing to do with the sport of boxing. He was the greatest of all time.
Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE
Muhammad Ali loved God, he loved himself, he loved his family & he respected the Gift God gave him. The Camera Loved him and he loved it..In spite of racial oppression and being denied civil rights Ali was a Brotha that had the Guts to go after his passion. The audacity of a young & famous Black Man taking a stand against War. The Greatest lived with Parkinson's for the last 32yrs of his life. Through it all he still had the will to Live, Give and Love. What an amazing Life...The Beautiful King can rest.....

I know, Baby, I just thought it was a strange condolence. I'm sorry for offending you and Iso.
