Prince, the org, sadness and appreciation

Sickened by the loss of Prince, I've found true nurturing pouring over the pages of this forum over the past month. I've felt guilty, like an outsider, reading through all the posts of truly devoted Prince fans. But I've laughed and been mesmerized with you, as if I were one of the gang-- a membership of friends sharing a passion for all things Prince.

In fact, I get upset reading magazine articles. I think of Prince mentioning "Rolling Stone" magazine not wanting to put him on their cover in a 1998 interview with Tavis Smiley. The media seems to just be seeking to profit with Prince click bait. From the release of the 911 call (which I refuse to listen to), to speculating that he had AIDS (again, refused to read article). I'm disgusted with the carnival attraction mainstream press is trying to make of our great loss. I feel like this is the place to be. This is the place for those that were truly devoted to the man and his work.

Prince has been gone over a month, and I'm still struggling with his loss. Can't nail down why that is, specifically. I've not ever been like this over the passing of another artist. I wasn't nearly as devoted as any of you.

But my heart hurts, and I feel such a great loss. Of all musicians, Prince truly was my favorite. "Dove's Cry" came out when I was 6-years-old, and it got me through my parents’ divorce. "Get Off" was my #1 jam in high school--made me feel confident and desirable as I tried to grasp and grow through that awkward phase of puberty into becoming a young woman. Prince's music was just above and beyond; his music is the soundtrack to my life.

I just wanted to come on here, give my testimony, lick my wounds and thank all of you that've contributed to these pages over the years. I've found healing reading through these pages, discovering the friendships that've formed, as well as learning more about Prince. It's comforting to see how respected and loved Prince was and is and to know I'm not alone in my high regard for this brilliant artist and enlightened spirit.

Thank you!

P.S. I posted this and don't know why there's an angry face next to it. I'm new. Don't have a clue what I'm doing. Sorry.

Nice post, I feel what you're saying. By the way, new to posting here too (longtime lurker over the years). I've been stuck in a real rut these past five weeks. Not many people in my "real" life that I can open up to about it without getting a 'WTF?' reaction, so it has been good to come here and interact with people going through the same feelings.
