Uncharted 4

I don't if anyone on here plays video games at all but if you do, and you own a PlayStation 4, then you should definitely check out Uncharted 4. Its absolutely brilliant.
Bit of background, I don't play games much but I basically raised my little brother and he was always a big gamer. So I would watch him play everything from Halo to Blinx the Timesweeper (look it up) and have the odd go at Fifa or something. I don't really watch football so I never knew how to play but I tried. But now, after watching my brother play the first 3 Uncharted games I became completely engrossed in the story. Its like no other game I've ever seen. Its like an Indiana Jones movie. Its great. Anyway, my brother was getting rid of his PlayStation so I bought it off him and aside from one or two games I've played on it with him, it's just sat there gathering dust. Until now. Now, I need to play it on the lowest difficulty setting (it's not hard, I'm just rubbish) but my God, what a game. It looks real, the jungles, the snowy mountain tops, the underground caves, they all look incredible. The voice acting and performances are better than most movies and it's got some insane set pieces. Probably the best game I've ever played and one of the best movies never made.

I have aspirations to be a game developer someday! smile (I'm a huge programming buff etc. - although I know nothing about programming the Playstation, except that it's awesome hardware!) But I absolutely HATE modern games, and I don't play them. What was it about Uncharted that grabbed you exactly? What is it? Are you supposed to just run around shooting things? (I really hate that). What point is it the jungles and mountains looking good then?

There are a few gamers here on the org, UptownNY being one of them. I used to play videogames up until a few years ago but I´m too busy with my job these days but I still enjoy them when I find the time. But I mostly play the same old games all the time, whereas most people play all kinds of games. My favorites are old school games such as Half Life 2 , some of the Halo series , and of course GTA . My favorite GTA is part IV and The Ballad Of Gay Tony. GTA V was a good game, too, but the story wasn´t as interesting as in GTAIV.

A game I´d really love to play is The Walking Dead, and The Last of Us.

I´d love to play Uncharted but I have an Xbox 360 and I am a bit undecided whether I should buy a Playstation 4, or Xbox1, or just wait a bit and see what they come up with next.

It's not just running around shooting people, though there is a bit of that in it. But it's not the main focus. The main focus of the Uncharted games, the new especially, is it the story. Its movie quality stuff. The acting, the script, the cinematography. Its all a level above other games.
As far as actual gameplay is concerned, it's fairly varied. There are a lot of puzzle aspects to it. For example, there is a part where you're driving along and you come to a steep hill of wet mud and your car can't make it up the hill. What can you do to get your car up the hill? And the solutions always make sense. There are more impressive puzzles than that but that's just a small example.
As well as that, there's quite a lot of platforming. More so than shooting. I can't really explain how exciting it is to play but there's a few videos on Youtube that show what the game is all about.

What is it about modern games you don't like? They're not all Call of Duty style snore fests. Have you tried any of the Telltale games? They're kind of like a modern version of the old Lucasarts point and click games. The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us are especially good.

I watched my brother play the GTA games from Vice City up to the one with the bikers in it (I don't remember the name) and my favourite was Vice City. Keep in mind that I never played them, I was only watching so I don't know which was actually better but I enjoyed the story of Vice City more. I have GTA V on PS4 but I haven't played it yet.

The reason my brother was getting rid of the Playstation 4 is because he wanted an Xbox One. I don't see any difference between them to be honest other than there are games on the Xbox that I want to play but they're not out on the Playstation. I think there's only one game on the Playstation that would make me feel jealous if I only had an Xbox. So I would probably prefer an Xbox One but it's down to what games you'd like to play that would determine which console to buy. And if I'm being completely honest, I really think that the Wii U is better than either of them. Mario 3D World, the HD remakes of Zelda, Bayonetta 1 and 2, The Wonderful 101, Star Fox and my favourite game ever, Mario Kart 8. Not to mention you can play every Wii game on it too. And it has free online play for people who's interested in that kind of thing.

It´s rare that people switch from a PS4 to an Xbox. I wonder why your brother did that?

I have played on a PS too, for example when I was at a friend´s house but I am so used to the Xbox controllers that I find playing with the PS controllers a bit difficult.

The Wi console is absolutely not my cup of tea. lol

And especially those Wi games that you listed....are absolutely not the kind of games I´d play.

But different strokes for different folks.

Try GTA V. It´s a great game, and it has tons of great music in it.

And once you´ve done that, play the GTA IV trilogy. It´s a bit old now but still a great game . Start with IV and then play The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost and the Damned (the biker game). Gay Tony and The Lost are called "Episodes from Liberty City" . You can also buy them second hand as a triple pack.

Vice City is still a great game but I wish they´d come with an updated version. I´d gladly pay big money for it if they came up with updated graphics. Such a wonderful game and storyline. And the music and vibe are great, too.

He wanted to play the Halo games and a game called Quantum Break, which actually looks brilliant. I kind of feel that the Wii U gets a bad rap. A lot of people have the impression that it's for children, which is Nintendo's fault I suppose, they haven't advertised it well. But there's some really underrated games on it. But it's no 3DS wink

I have my brothers old Xbox 360 somewhere so I can fish that out and play the other GTA games. I hope he still has them. I'm really looking forward to GTA V though. It will be a completely fresh experience for me because I haven't seen my brother play it before. Is the soundtrack as good as Vice City?

Aaaahhhh.....the Halo series. I think that was the first videogame I ever played on the Xbox. Still love them, even though the storyline is too complicated and the game is probably good for 12 year olds. But I´m an unapologetic Halo fan and I am probably the only person on this planet who really liked and still likes Halo ODST. Still play it every now and then.

-

If you can, play GTA IV and the extra stories first. That way you won´t be so disappointed because GTA V´s graphics are so good that going back to GTA IV might be a problem, because I know I have a problem with the looks of GTA San Andreas and Vice City. That´s why I hope they re-release those great games with better graphics.

-

As far as the music goes, GTA V has of course much more current music but it also has some old school radio stations, and it has MANY radiostations, so there´s that.

Of course the music will sound dated sooner or later but that´s ok.

Vice City had those great 80s songs and early HipHop but I can´t really say which one had or has the better music.

I know I really enjoy cruising around in Los Santos in GTA V and I often listen to Flying Lotus´s or Gilles Peterson´s World Music FM. Those are my favorite radiostations to listen to while riding in my car(s). wink

He's a big Halo fan. He does stay up all night playing online with his friends. Halo Reach is his favourite, I think. Its the one I remember hearing about most. But I do remember him talking about ODST a lot because I'm a big fan of Nathan Fillion and he was in that game so he used that to draw me in.

I love the way there's so much freedom in the GTA games. If you want you can just cruise around listening to the radio. Alternatively, you can pick up a prostitute and shoot her to get your money back. I know as a girl I'm not supposed to like that, but I do. It adds to the freedom the player has.

I've been looking up some games I can get for the PS4 seeing as I have quite a bit of free time on my hands these days and I came across a game called the Witcher 3. It got loads of awards and it seems like something I'd be able to play. I mentioned before I'm not too experienced playing these kinds of games but it sounds too good to pass up. Have you played it and if so, would you recommend it?

AAH YOU KNOW OF THOSE!! smile I remember seeing your profile pic, you looked fairly young, how did YOU know of Lucasarts?? smile I LOVE those, but even those I played relatively recently, much later in life - when I was young, I played games on my Spectrum (you're Irish, right? You should know what that is!) - and I used to love a lot of textual adventures of the time. Played arcade games too, had fun, but those don't grab you as much as a good story.....

Out of curiosity, why does someone buy a console instead of a heavy duty PC to play their games? Since, you already have one - I'm assuming, otherwise you couldn't be on the Org, right? smile

Gaming PCs are really expensive and far from required for internet tasks. Besides Uncharted is a Playstation exclusive title. You can use remote play for your pc but you still need the console and it would be downgraded to 720p.

Yeah, I'm 26. Again, I have my brother to thank for introducing me to the Lucasarts games. I haven't actually played many of them. Full Throttle and the Indiana Jones one, fate of Atlantis, I think.
Yeah, I'm Irish but I've never heard of a Spectrum? I grew up with a second hand NES and the N64. I was a bit of a geeky girl, LOL.

I only have a cheap laptop that I barely use. I mostly use my phone to access the org. Gaming PC's can be very expensive. A PS4 or Xbox One is only 370 euro. Less if you buy it used. And they should last about 6-8 years before a replacement is released, whereas gaming PC's that were top of the range maybe 3 years ago might struggle to play newer games.

Spectrum is like a small computer, from back in the 80s, made by Clive Sinclair, very famous in the UK..... that's the best one-sentence description I can give you of it.... smile

No, the pound is for the UK. Ireland is not part of the UK. We used to use a currency called the punt until the Euro came in in 2002.

I was looking at getting one of those Steam Machines. They're a bit costly but the games through Steam are generally really cheap so it could work out cheaper overall. I'm happy with my Playstation and Wii U for now though. And sometimes I visit my brother and have a go on his xbox one. I really want to play that Quantum Break game. Iceman from the X-Men is in it, along with some of the cast from The Wire.
