I've been tested several times, for blood donation and when pregnant. But I also got it as a mutual decision for monogamy between me and my former man.
I'd probably be more afraid if I was considered as high-risk, whatever THAT means.  | |

in the week after my bf tested positive, before i got my results, i had some time to deal with it, and somehow knew what the results would be. it was worse when i found out his results. sometimes the truth is scary, but is better than a lack of knowledge I commend you on your courage and I wish you well. I used to test once every 3 months -- and each time was absolute torture. After a while, I couldn't take the whole mindf*ck of that cycle, so I really changed the way I live. Years later, its amazing to see some relatives and people I knew turn out to be HIV+ when I remain unscathed in the shadow of all the stuff I used to do. It's really a sobering and humbling thing. been tested A LOT...I get tested with clients to help them through the process. The rapid test is out and now you can get your results in 20 mins instead of weeks later.
Still doesn't prevent a damn thang...(ok, I know I'm not at work but damn it if people don't think it prevents HIV.  ) | |

The rapid test will first be at testing sites. You would have to check with your local health depts and clinics to see if they are going to have the tests. The test was develop by Abbott Lab and was only recently approve by the FDA. | |

I think the rapid test will make it much easier for people to be tested it. It amazes me the number of people who test but don't go back for their results...The rapid test will take care of that phenomen... | |

I get tested...
I do have a question, in case anyone knows... a girl from work got poked with a needle while taking out trash and has been off of work for nearly two months, even though all tests came back negative for AIDS and for some other thing. I hear yesterday that she is finally coming back and that the reason she was off of work for two months is because the doctors put her on the AIDS Cocktail to prevent AIDS, and she was getting sick from it. Would they really do that? That makes absolutely no sense to me that they would put her on medication when you can't prevent AIDS with medication (can you?) and there is no cure. If that was the case, wouldn't there be many people taking this medication if they've had unprotected sex and might suspect they caught the virus? What is the point of giving her this medication if, in fact, they really did? I questioned two people about it and they think they would put her on it to prevent it. At the most I only have my blood screened once a year because I feel obligated to for other peoples sake. Otherwise I would really rather not know if I ever became HIV+. | |

I participated in an AIDS vaccine study for a couple of years and was tested frequently. . .since then, I suppose I've been tested whenever I've donated blood. I had a little knot in my stomach over the first test, but I wanted to know either way.
