Oops, They Are At It Again: Microsoft

As I told you Microsoft Inc. is aggressively pushing Windows 10. Again, Microsoft loading the OS onto your computer without your permission. If you noticed Win 10 downloading, shut down your computer... just hold down the power button. If you choose to download "free" Windows 10, I urge you to read the 1200 words.. terms and conditions. Folks agreeing to those terms, your compute datar is no longer your own. Again... set you update setting to... "... allow me to choose to download updates or not". Its the next to the last options... the last one, you shut off updates all together.

Also, power off you computer when you've finished with it. July 29, is supposed to be the last day for free Microsoft 10.

Again Windows 7 and 8.1, you have 5 more years of getting updates. I'll be back and suggest Malware and backup systems that will allow you to run a smooth system until supports end. The software isn't free but I can guarantee you it will keep you computer running smooth, with no hiccups.

Do people not wonder why this is happening?

I've disabled the update file you mentioned. Do you think the borg will try to assimilate me again by sending that file multiple times?

So Im telling you guys not to upgrade your current system. If you just gotta have it buy a new laptop. It will save you alot of heartache trust me.

Yeah, it forced the download on my laptop. So I have 10 now. It's pretty nice though. Not sure what the complaints are about. My computer no longer freezes up like it did before. It is makes it easier to organize things and starts up faster than before.

This thread is related to this one... http://prince.org/msg/100/421619

The issue...

Microsoft has been downloading Win 10 onto customers computers without their permission. I've pointed out some of the privacy issues Win 10 . Of course if this isn't an issue for you, cool Unfortunately, many people don't read the terms & conditions of electronic software and hardware they purchase that has access to their data. If this isn't an concern or issue, that's fine. This thread is for those Win 7 users who don't want to update... though Microsoft is attempting to shove Win 10 down our throats.

I'll be back with a in-depth report of what you can do, what updates you should look our for and the software that should be used to allow your computer to run smoothly for the next 5 years.

This is Mircrosft acting like the big assholes they are. mad

Again:

To prevent Microsoft downloading and installing Windows 10 on your computer, you need to turn off the Recommended Updates setting in Windows Update and hide Windows 10 from the list of available recommended updates.

In Windows 7, go to Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update. Click the Change settings link on the left.

Look for the Recommended updates entry and make sure it’s unchecked. Click OK.

In Windows 8.1 you can either follow the same steps listed above, or you can go through the PC Settings app. Go to Settings > Update and recovery > Windows update and select Choose how updates get installed. Uncheck the Recommended Updates box and click Apply.

Windows 10 will still appear as an available update, but it won’t be automatically installed now.

Finally, right-click on the Windows 10 update, and select Hide Update to make sure you don't install it by mistake.

Again:

Creepy Updates

The updates in question are:
  • KB3068708 – This update introduces the Diagnostics and Telemetry tracking service to existing devices.
  • KB3022345 (replaced by KB3068708) – This update adds the Diagnostics and Telemetry tracking service to in-market devices.
  • KB3075249
  • – This update adds telemetry points to the User Account Control (UAC) feature in order to collect data on elevations that come from low integrity levels.
  • KB3080149 – This package updates the Diagnostics and Telemetry tracking service to existing
  • devices.

Once done, you can right-click on any updates shown by Windows Update and choose "Hide Update" to make sure that these updates won't be reinstalled in case you reboot your system.

Windows 10 is great. Its fast, secure and stable. Move with the times and just get it. As for the privacy issues people complain about, it aint just MS data mining their customers... See Google, Apple, Facebook etc. This is how things roll in the 21st century. All our personal data in somone's cloud so that they can better target things to sell you. Thats all it really amounts to. I would rather see an advert that is relevant to me rather than a random penis enlargement ad that (clearly) is not relevant to my life (honest!).

No, Apple doesn't access my files or folders on my computer nor do they back them up to their servers. I have the key to my encrypted files on my Mac. Cloud services of any kind, Facebook, and Google are a choicw... that I don't partake. I use Google in a very limited fashion, Youtube but that HDD is one that stays on the shelf for i

I don't take exception with anyone who thinks this is a great Win 10 OS. What I do take exception with, is shoving Windows 10 down Microsoft customers... many of them unsuspecting. I also take exception Windows 10 spyware features that are set enabled. Windows 10 users should check for another hidden by default feature that uses your network bandwidth to share updates with other Windows 10 users across the Internet. Window 10 about 4gb has download Windows 10 (for reserve) on customer computers without their permission. Yes, Microsoft has changed setting to automatic so Win 10 would download whether you agree are not. If you've gone thought the 13 pages of disabling Telemetry, you'll need to check back because with some major updates... Telementary is set back to enable. Gee, I wonder how that happens? Still disabling those 13 pages of spyware, Microsoft still has the means to gather a lot of info on its customers.

"Your privacy is important to us," goes on to address the types of data collected by using Windows or other Microsoft products or services. That data includes the user's name, e-mail address, postal address, phone number, passwords, password hints, age, and gender, as well as other personal information.

Microsoft also collects data on people who may not even use Microsoft products or services:

Contacts and relationships. We collect data about your contacts and relationships if you use a Microsoft service to manage contacts, or to communicate or interact with other people or organizations.

This is just for starters...

With all that's gone down. Microsoft who's one of the 35 companies that has given up it customers info without court orders. A company that has given the US government encryption key to Bit-Loker, Eric Snowden ... you'd think folks would read the terms and agreement. Microsoft depends on folks being lazy not to read. Microsoft has been less than transparent on what they gather and for what purpose... only to repeat several times in their terms and condition -- "Your privacy is important to use."

I'm not down with the Win 10's automatic updates nor do I think anyone left Microsoft in charge of policing what you do with your computer or its hardware. So, I've opted not to download Win 10.

Let's approach this in a scientific fashion - all those who DO think that 10 is great ......... - WHY? WHAT makes it great? The lack of WHICH features/functionality would make you not consider anything else?

This are the tools which should keep Windows 7 running smoothly for the next 5/4 years.

Sanboxie: http://www.sandboxie.com

A program for Windows that sandboxes applications on the operating system. A sandbox separates programs run in it from the underlying operating system, other software and data, effectively preventing those programs from making permanent changes to the system.Even malicious software is restrained to the sandbox, which means that it cannot infect the operating system itself, and that all traces of it will be removed from the system once the sandbox is terminated. Software that is run in the sandbox is isolated from the system, which makes it ideal for testing purposes, and to improve the overall security of the system by running applications that are often targeted by malware developers in the sandbox.

Sandboxie has a free version and a paid version. Don't be cheap get the paid version, its worth every penny. The good news, unlike most anti-virus / malware programs, you'll never have to purchase it again for the life of "the" computer you purchased it for.

Acronis: http://www.acronis.com/en...y-features

A comprehensive backup solution with local imaging, file and folder backup, online backup and syncing data across all your devices. I've used this software for years, the good news it interface has gotten a lot easier to use, understand and manage. You can also back up mobile devices. You can either backup your entire computer iOS or PC via a local external hard drive (that is what I use) or have Acronis backup your computer via the Cloud.

For those of you who have HP computers, you know what a pain in the ass it is to restore an OS then fumble through your make product number to find what BIOS's, drivers, or firmware you need to get you system backup. With Acronis, you can reinstall your entire OS, drivers, firmware, partitions, settings and data in minutes. You don't have to do anything but click twice.

Who uses Internet Explorer? Nobody! I hope... lol

Chrome

Firefox

I'd pick Firefox, you can add extensions and block who sees what you are doing on your computer. These are some nice extensions just to name a few...

AdBlock

Better Privacy

Click & Clean

Facebook Disconnect

Ghostery

Google Disconnect

No Google Analytics

NoScript ( a must)

Self-Destructing Cookies

Privacy Badger

Disconnect

RedMorph

WOT (a must)

I'd recommend you disable Java. Also for those who pay your bills online, VPN is a necessity. Not using a VPN is just plain dumb and just ask for some potential drama sooner or later. Still, all should be using a VPN anyways. Yes VPN cost -free VPN's are a joke- but its will worth it.

I'll be back to explain the lastest Windwos 7 downloads of last Tue.

At this point...

I don't care what pros Windows 10 have, the stunts that Microsoft have already pulled... nope. Besides this thread is only for those who've decided they aren't going to download or may in the distant future. I have a couple of friends who are Microsoft users, but they've decided to see what Microsoft 10 will become. Five years is long enough to see what Microsoft does, doesn't do, or changes. An example: ultimated cloud service... which isn't anymore. wink

"GWX Control Panel"

it's supposed to prevent MS from automatically updating your 7/8.1 to Win10.

i had to uninstall four 'microsoft updates' today which were downloaded onto my computer without my consent. i already changed the update function to 'always ask', leaving me strictly in charge or so i thought but then poof! my computer began updating on its own. so, i uninstalled it all manually which was a pain.

.

i think mcafee authorized the download without me. confused

THIS^^

Everyone uses Google and FB which do the same gathering data from users.

And even when the others dont, there's always hackers that will grab info thats worthwhile (cough iCloud cough).

Its part of life nowadays.

I actually like the way Win10 performs.

Win7 is getting really slow nowadays and why even bother with 8.
