Well i have two laptops, one running 10 and the other one I had to have a new hard drive put into it after I tried to upgrade to 10. It completely messed up my laptop. So Im telling you guys not to upgrade your current system. If you just gotta have it buy a new laptop. It will save you alot of heartache trust me.

Yeah, it forced the download on my laptop. So I have 10 now. It's pretty nice though. Not sure what the complaints are about. My computer no longer freezes up like it did before. It is makes it easier to organize things and starts up faster than before.

The issue...

Microsoft has been downloading Win 10 onto customers computers without their permission. I've pointed out some of the privacy issues Win 10 . Of course if this isn't an issue for you, Unfortunately, many people don't read the terms & conditions of electronic software and hardware they purchase that has access to their data. If this isn't an concern or issue, that's fine. This thread is for those Win 7 users who don't want to update... though Microsoft is attempting to shove Win 10 down our throats.

I'll be back with a in-depth report of what you can do, what updates you should look our for and the software that should be used to allow your computer to run smoothly for the next 5 years.

To prevent Microsoft downloading and installing Windows 10 on your computer, you need to turn off the Recommended Updates setting in Windows Update and hide Windows 10 from the list of available recommended updates.

In Windows 7, go to Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update. Click the Change settings link on the left.

Look for the Recommended updates entry and make sure it’s unchecked. Click OK.

In Windows 8.1 you can either follow the same steps listed above, or you can go through the PC Settings app. Go to Settings > Update and recovery > Windows update and select Choose how updates get installed. Uncheck the Recommended Updates box and click Apply.

Windows 10 will still appear as an available update, but it won’t be automatically installed now.

Finally, right-click on the Windows 10 update, and select Hide Update to make sure you don't install it by mistake.

Windows 10 is great. Its fast, secure and stable. Move with the times and just get it. As for the privacy issues people complain about, it aint just MS data mining their customers... See Google, Apple, Facebook etc. This is how things roll in the 21st century. All our personal data in somone's cloud so that they can better target things to sell you. Thats all it really amounts to. I would rather see an advert that is relevant to me rather than a random penis enlargement ad that (clearly) is not relevant to my life (honest!).

I don't take exception with anyone who thinks this is a great Win 10 OS. What I do take exception with, is shoving Windows 10 down Microsoft customers... many of them unsuspecting. I also take exception Windows 10 spyware features that are set enabled. Windows 10 users should check for another hidden by default feature that uses your network bandwidth to share updates with other Windows 10 users across the Internet. Window 10 about 4gb has download Windows 10 (for reserve) on customer computers without their permission. Yes, Microsoft has changed setting to automatic so Win 10 would download whether you agree are not. If you've gone thought the 13 pages of disabling Telemetry, you'll need to check back because with some major updates... Telementary is set back to enable. Gee, I wonder how that happens? Still disabling those 13 pages of spyware, Microsoft still has the means to gather a lot of info on its customers.

With all that's gone down. Microsoft who's one of the 35 companies that has given up it customers info without court orders. A company that has given the US government encryption key to Bit-Loker, Eric Snowden ... you'd think folks would read the terms and agreement. Microsoft depends on folks being lazy not to read. Microsoft has been less than transparent on what they gather and for what purpose... only to repeat several times in their terms and condition -- "Your privacy is important to use."

I'm not down with the Win 10's automatic updates nor do I think anyone left Microsoft in charge of policing what you do with your computer or its hardware. So, I've opted not to download Win 10.

I'd recommend you disable Java. Also for those who pay your bills online, VPN is a necessity. Not using a VPN is just plain dumb and just ask for some potential drama sooner or later. Still, all should be using a VPN anyways. Yes VPN cost -free VPN's are a joke- but its will worth it.

I don't care what pros Windows 10 have, the stunts that Microsoft have already pulled... nope. Besides this thread is only for those who've decided they aren't going to download or may in the distant future. I have a couple of friends who are Microsoft users, but they've decided to see what Microsoft 10 will become. Five years is long enough to see what Microsoft does, doesn't do, or changes. An example: ultimated cloud service... which isn't anymore.

i had to uninstall four 'microsoft updates' today which were downloaded onto my computer without my consent. i already changed the update function to 'always ask', leaving me strictly in charge or so i thought but then poof! my computer began updating on its own. so, i uninstalled it all manually which was a pain.

And even when the others dont, there's always hackers that will grab info thats worthwhile (cough iCloud cough).

Its part of life nowadays.

I actually like the way Win10 performs.

Win7 is getting really slow nowadays and why even bother with 8.
