The CW Renews 11 shows

The CW is sticking with what works: It's entire scripted lineup.

The younger-skewing network has handed out early renewals for 11 of its series. They are: Arrow (season five), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (season two), Legends of Tomorrow (season two), The Flash (season three), iZombie (season three), Jane the Virgin (season three), The Originals (season four), Reign (season four), Supernatural (season 12), The Vampire Diaries (season eight) and The 100 (season four).

That is all 10 of the series currently on the air and Reign, which returns next month. The network is not revealing episode counts — or when each of the series would be slated as Mark Pedowitz remains committed to a year-round schedule that includes making a bolder push with originals in the typically lower-rated summer period.

"The CW has become home to some of the most critically acclaimed shows on broadcast television, with a wide array of fantastic scripted series across the week, ranging from musical comedy, to superhero action, to gritty sci-fi dramas,” Pedowitz said in making the announcement Friday. "As we continue to further our strategy of more year-round original programming, picking up these 11 series for the 2016-2017 season puts us in a great position of having proven, high-quality shows to launch in the fall as well as midseason and summer of 2017."

Still to be determined is the fate of Julie Plec's midseason drama Containment, which premieres in April.

They should cancel the Vampires Diaries this season. Nina Dobrev (Elena) has left the series and more than likely Ian Somerhalder (Damon) is not coming back next season.

I like the 100 but I think it's funny how society on Earth changed so fast in just 80 something years. There are new languages, why would new languages pop up in such a short time??? New religons and customs and these tribes act like it's been around for hundresd of years. They draw on the walls like how ancient people did, wouldn't they write words as well.

They don't like to cancel long running series without announcing a final season. Next season will be last definitely, though I hope The Originals can last one season longer. It's my favorite show currently on the air.

Yeah but they will introduce a new female lead and it always feel like they are stretching out the series, kinda like how the X-Files with Doggit and Reyes.

New Female Lead? Why? Freya, Cami, Davina, Hayley, once in a blue-moon Rebekah, they would never replace Rebekah, even if the actress has a conflicting schedule, they'll just keep working around it. And after the witch Rebekah they'd be hard pressed to find anyone better than her, she had Rebekah down.

CynicKill

I'm psyched as HELL about Reign! Soaps get no better.

It must be doing better than I thought it was. I guess the Gossip Girl meets Game of Thrones mix they were looking for resonated with others as well.

And The 100 is good too. But why do I love this girl so much?

The Vampire Diaries’ Nina Dobrev was desperate to leave the show despite bosses asking her to stay

ITV Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev has left The Vampire Diaries

Nina Dobrev was repeatedly asked to stay on The Vampire Diaries. as her contract became nearing its end.

The brunette beauty was set to complete her six-season contract and didn’t want to renew it, despite pleas from the show’s creator Julie Plec.

"Nina had said earlier this year that she wanted to be done, and we spent a little time trying to talk her out of it," said Plec on the KCRW podcast.

"[We'd say,] 'Oh, look at all these great plans of how you can stay!'"

Nina Dobrev was desperate to leave TVD

Despite rumours that Nina was keen to leave the show because of her failed relationship with co-star Ian Somehalder, who recently got married to Nikki Reed, Plec insists that there wasn’t any ‘hard feelings’ around her exit.

Nina "was just looking forward to moving on with no hard feelings and no drama,” Plec revealed.

“She finally was like, 'No, I signed up for six years. I've done my six years. I'm ready to move on and spread my wings."

Plec admitted that the news was a huge shock for TVD’s fanbase.

“It was a beautiful shock, but there’s grief attached to it,” she said, explaining that Nina’s characters were hugely popular within the main core of its teenage audience.

"There is a profound attachment to this character and to this show,” she said.

Last month, Nina made the shocking announcement on her Instagram page after deciding to quit the show after six seasons.

The actress - who has played Elena Gilbert and the other doppelgangers - confirmed that the current season will be her last on the supernatural drama.

Nina Dobrev says goodbye

Writing on Instagram, she said: "I've just spent the most beautiful weekend on Lake Lanier in Georgia with my own TVD Family, the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries.

"I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn't just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party. I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime.

"I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger.

"I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there's still so much more to come before the season finale in May.

"Elena fell in love not once, but twice, with two epic soulmates, and I myself made some of the best friends I'll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever."

ITV

Dobrev's exit is not the only one coming for the show, as Michael Trevino - who plays former werewolf Tyler Lockwood - will also leave his role as a series regular.

Will you miss Elena?

As I understand it almost everybody on that show wants to leave but they still keep going.

I'm taking it that she needs a break from seeing Ian everyday for weeks at a time, as well as needing to further her career. She still could come back, it's not like the door completely closed on the shows part just yet.

Okay, Kat does the pyre thing the best, but still.

I think if she does it will be the last episode to wrap things up

Who knows. I'm sure the paycheck was nice, it could be an allure back.

Aren't they doing a 3 year time jump?

Honestly I hated the season when Elena turned off her emotions and she was also playing bitchy Katherine I wished they would killed off both characters. Talk about over kill.

Well looks like VD may have replaced her. If Damon leaves next then that means more of Enzo (oh god that guy is irritating)

Good news. I'm hoping Arrow gets at least a season 6 or7 before cancellation. Glad Legends of Tomorrow got a season 2. I personally think all shows like this should get at least a season 3. to get it's footing.

Happy to see Arrow and Flash being renewed. The jury is still out for me on Legends of Tomorrow, but I'm glad for the renewal, as I think it could really find its groove in a second season.

Also happy about iZombie. Just a fun show all around. I'm a big Supernatural fan as well, but I have to admit that it might be time for that show to take a break.
