Unfortunately, I didn't benefit much. People I know won, but not me personally. I was taken out for a lovely dinner at an upscale Toronto restaurant, but that was it.

Now Rodeo you know 36million out of 126 million ain't no 65% the winner is receiving. Whole lotta other things going on. Break it down.

you end up with 30 to 40% (if you take a lump sum) of whatever the actul prize is. Some of that depends on state and local tax law. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

but I am sure (well i assume) most states with a state income tax do take their cut. It might matter if the given lottery was offered in that state or if you were from another state. (that is some states may not tax the winnings as they benefit from the original ticket sales) "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

There are no State taxes for Lottery prizes but the pay- ment will be less federal tax. " So no there's no state income tax here on winnings, yet when a cash value is opted for the winner still gets less than half so it ain't only the taxes one is paying for. 1. How did they mentally cope with their win? Did it affect their personality? If so, how? For the better, or worse? 2. Did they manage to keep their money or did they blow it on useless stuff? Are they still rich? 3. Did they invest it smartly? Buy real estate, land , apartments etc? 4. Did they lose friends? 5. Did they win new friends? 6. What would YOU do if you won the lottery? 7. If you won the lottery, would you keep your current job ? ( Because I think I would...I´d probably reduce my hours though and only work part-time).

but what a California resident wins a lottery from another state? Like if you go to Texas and buy a ticket and win wouldn't you be legally required to pay CA income tax on that? "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Here there are no local taxes only federal taxes on winnings, the monies deductated are not only taxes but fees incurred by the lottery itself what those fees are is anybody's guess is all I'm saying.
