Born this Way TV

Okay....so I just cam accross a reality show about young adults with Down Syndrome. Against my better judgement....I am watching it the way one would watch a train wreck. There are quite a few things about this show concept that is rubbing me wrong. I just am not feeling this show.....it is rubbing me wrong. eek

and of the participants....that kid is on the fast track to be listed as a sex offender

Here's a link to an article about the show: http://america.aljazeera....drome.html

Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

Typical manipulated reality show (as expected) and with most of these "different but the same" types of shows, much of it centers on the mundane...but all the cast members are wonderful nonetheless.

This is not akin to watching a "train wreck" to me. Never thought of interaction between people with disabilities as some kind of horrible thing to watch or that, for some strange reason, I shouldn't be watching this.

Although it's true that the show does not center around how the rest of the world interacts with the cast members, I think that's totally ok. It's only 6 episodes - 6 episodes that showcase that people with Down Syndrome are loving, emotional people that typically share the same wants and needs as everyone else - unbelievably many people do not realize this.

On a side note, I had not heard of Mosaic Down Syndrome until this show and I find it extremely interesting.

Who is on a fast track as being listed as a sex offender?

The kid that wants a girlfriend that is being aggressive toward girls. Growing up, we had a kid in our neighborhood, who happened to have DS. His mom behaved as if everyone should be okay with his behavior--and he did a lot to us girls. Constantly crossing personal boundaries and even crossing physical boundaries until he finally groped the wrong girl and there were demands for him to be sent away. Perhaps its because of my personal experience that I watch this with the feelings that I have. The girl crazy person with DS...I winced a few times. It just brought back some memories for me of being groped as a child......(shudder)

and i have NO idea why the font just got microscopic....
