OK, I just saw it - I didn't like it, the story, but the visuals were brilliant - the VFX was industry-leading! I just wanna say - did anybody else think that Rey looks like Demi Lovato?
^Which was fine in the first cause the canvas had just started to be filled in. We are in the 7th movie so asking for a bit of explanation since we are aware of the backstory isnt too much to ask.
But half the fun of these movies is learning new tidbits along the way. I personally think it's great that every damned detail isn't spelled out. We'll discover new information as the new films come out. In the meantime, fans will speculate and debate...which should be a FUN activity.
I think I'm too old to have that level of fun anymore lol I have 4+ crates of Star Wars novels that are now, no longer canon. I think we need a few more blanks filled in as a result. . I don't like all the details spelled out either. I still do not want much/any back story or Master Yoda, don't need to know how Anakin was fathered etc, I love the mystery of Star Wars, I love shows with mystery anyway.
Hudson said: Maybe after its charged once it doesnt need to be charged again, at least not for a long time. They blew up a few planets with it but after its destroyed there was still a huge star thing left behind. So it would have had a few more good shots left.
The second time when they're going to blow up the resistance base you see it draining the entire sun. How the heck did it charge the first time to blow up the republic system?
That was a scene that lost me, I just don't get how the Empire with all its resources and riches could not build something that huge, but an underground First Order could build something so huge that blows up 5-7 planetoids at one time. That was just to grandios.
But see in the book that preceded the movie the relationship between The New Republic, The Resistence and the First Order is explained. All I'm asking is that JJ do a better job in the script so the average movie viewer can figure out what is what. After the first viewing I left the theatre wondering if the First Order had destroyed the New Republic?, Corsucant? and why is there a resistance to begin with. Granted a quick google answered all these, but I shouldn't have to google to figure out simple plot points.
The book you're referring to...is that "Aftermath"?
Snoke was jarring my first viewing, but was easy to digest the other eight. I don't care if he is Plagueis or a new character that is given a good backstory but Palpaltine would be lame.
My proiblem with Snoke being Plagueis is you have a sith lord that cheated death decades before TPM and is so powerful that no other jedi or sith lord is able to detect him and his maneuvering both the Republic and the Galactic Empire for decades then how the HELL is Rey let alone Luke Skywalker going to be able to defeat him. Granted Ive never read an EU star wars novel, but it seems like in these movie's history no one could take down Plaggy.
Han Solo stated that there was nothing he and Leia could have done to save their son, "There's just too much Vader in him." Leia responded (as if explaining herself), "Thats why I wanted him with Luke...but I shouldnt have sent him away...that's when I lost him and when I lost you." Solo then states that he went back to the only thing he was good at. I take that as Solo and Leia disagreed about whether their son should train...Solo was worried about the dark side, Leia didnt listen and sent Ben to Luke (this is a reversal of the EU storyline, where Leia was initially afraid to even have kids because of their Force potential...and dark side potential). So...Solo left her when Ben went off to train...and was completely unaware that she was pregnant. Leia found out about her pregnancy shortly after Solo's departure and didnt tell him or attempt to track him down due to their disagreements over Ben. Little Rey was sent to Jakku at what...5 or 6 years old? Plenty of time for young Ben Solo to train and turn on his uncle. Leia sent Rey into hiding on Jakku (seeing as she couldnt send her to Luke) and decided to lead the Resistance that is fighting against the evil fuckers who turned her son to the dark side. This explains Max von Sydow's character being on Jakku (who had a much bigger role in TFA prior to JJ Abrams rewriting of Michael Arndt's original script...check the original artwork that leaked and you'll see that Von Sydow's character was connected to Rey). This also explains why the Falcon is also on Jakku, for Rey to "explore" (she knew EVERYTHING about the Falcon...except that it was the Falcon); it was stolen by whoever and whoever and whoever...but I'll bet one of thse thieves was connected to Leia and dropped the ship off at Jakku "just in case". Why else would Rey have been dropped off with that Uncle Plott guy (or whatever his name was); he was supposedly one of the thieves that stole the Falcon, but he's the same person who says, "Quiet, girl!" when the young Rey is screaming for the ship to come back after dropping her off.

I dont know...I'm kind of all over the place with my explanation (I'm terrible at this kind of stuff), and maybe I'm just grasping at straws...but it makes no "Star Wars sense" for Rey to be Luke Skywalker's daughter. Thoughts?

in the book Han goes out of his way to state he doesn't know Unkar Plutt and she can not stand Unkar Plutt at all...

Rey has to be Luke skywalkers daughter. When the training Jedi's where murdered, Luke sent his wife and baby Rey into hiding to keep them safe. Something happened to the mother. Luke stayed away for safety and selfish reasons. (Just a theory on my part.). Although the teaser trailer #2 says,"Force is strong in my family, my father has it. I have it. My sister has it. You have that power too." Luke must be talking to Rey.

I'm still leaning toward Luke being the father but I'm not sure that Luke knew he had a daughter before now.
Finding out about Rey will be the reason for Luke's return.

See I dont know I see if we have a whole backstory bout Rey's parents and why she was left on Jakku it runs the risk of really sidelining the next movie with alot of back story. I think the best thing is that Luke took Rey to Jakku for safe keeping before disappearing. Just keep it nice and simple.

I think Luke stayed away for his self disappointment by not foreseeing the threat that killed all the Jedi in training. Why his daughter was to be safe with the mother hidden away.

What if Rey is a clone of Luke Skywalker, made from his severed hand? Think about this...it's possible Vader retrieved Luke's hand from Cloud City (along with his first lightsaber), then had it cloned as a possible insurance policy if he failed to turn Luke. The clone embryo may have been created, then frozen for that possible scenario. Changing the sex in a clone isn't hard to do, and it's possible it was the result of Vader tinkering with making the clone as powerful in the Force as possible by manipulating its DNA. After the fall of the Empire, and the rise of the Knights of Ren, maybe the clone and lightsaber were found by Luke, who took her to raise as his child. When the Knights of Ren attacked and killed the trainees at Luke's school, he could have then taken her to Jakku to hide her from Kylo and Snoke. This would explain her having visions when she touched the lightsaber, including the first bit where she sees the hallways of Cloud City where Luke battled Vader.
Just a thought.

One thing is for certain ... Whatever the interwebz comes up with will be far more interesting and believable than the rubbish disney has planned ... I expect bb8s lighter to be a full on lightsaber by ep8 with a yoda/sidious type battle to ensue complete with wimpering dog noises and fart jokes ..

why expect that? one great thing about SW7 is, that there were NO such shitty unrealistic KungFu fights or ping pong Yodas. goddam awful also we had no silly Jedi ghosts, which already ruined Empire and ROTJ keep it up Disney!
Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

Because bb8 is worse than jar jar and clearly designed to appeal to children in diapers ... Without the backlash menace recieved jar jar would have starred in all 3 prequels .. The fans embracing this drivel ensures another staring roll for bb8
I like BB-8, he doesn't take a lot of screen time,
And I did not like the way Disney took to promoting the movie by all the cutesy fluffy promo stuff.
the only thing that should have promoted the movie was the novels the artwork images etc
let that other stuff follow.
I think people would not have had an issue(those that do) with the droid if he wasn't being sized up to R2 D2
They're going to seize every opportunity for instant return on their investment. And it's Disney . . . we knew they were going for the kids (and legions of collectors). So they pushed the toys and kid stuff first. And as predicted, they flew off the shelves.
It's no accident BB-8 is much smaller than R2-D2.

I could be wrong but I don't think BB-8 being small and cute has much to do with Disney. I mean, Disney weren't involved in Return of the Jedi and that movie had actual teddy bears in it.

Oh it's some Disney crap all right. It's not so much the look as the cutesy acting it does.

R2D2 vs BB8 is like Clone Wars compared to Star Wars Rebels.

I kinda dig BB-8, but right now, it's like comparing the Chuck Taylor to the Reebok Pump. One lasts forever, the other, the shiny new thing.
(The Clone Wars (shorts and full-length series) are and remain some of my very favorite parts in the entire SW canon. Criminally underrated.)
