I think the PR forum is what you make it and how you take it. Sometimes the misinformed bickering and couched innuendo is jaw-dropping; other times, well-informed exchange is good for the soul.

Either way, you can't drown in other people's crap -- whether it sits well with you or not. I guess it's important to have some balance of a thirst to learn new things and a pretty stable footing in your own knowledge, views and values.

It's an interesting forum with lots of very intelligent, informative, thought provoking posts that have made me look at situations differently and therefore help me form my own opinions and views on various subjects.

But it mostly it'ss frustrating, gives me a headache, and raises my blood pressure so I don't usually go in there very often. neutral

I agree with you on that first part. I do go in there though, because I think it's really interesting. Not just for posting, but also to read through everyone's opinions. I like it (sometimes, you have to be in the mood for it) because it would be really boring if I went through life only surrounding myself with people who agreed with evertything I believe in.

It's very frustrating. The last post I read was someone saying that after this war people are going to like Saddam more than Bush.

Several polls, entre autre on bbc.co.uk i blieve have indicated people think Bush is more dangerous than Saddam. And i have a link somewhere 2 back that up, but i'm lazy smile

I'm glad there's a Politics & Religion forum. At first, I wasn't too pleased that the GD would not be a place for cdiscussions that much anymore, but it was already that way. By opening the P&R froum, the Org created a forum dedicated to debating various issues. Shit does fly, and yes you have everything from pompous to ingenious, but it just reflects the diversity. Not everything is stellar nor does it needs to be. It's just folks talking. It's a bit hot these days with the war going on, but I don't regret having a place where we can have some of these discussions.

I wandered in there about 3 or 4 times...and I even dared to post once. But it's pretty scary in there. The problem with people being able to voice their opinions is that the intelligent ones are usually drowned out by the arrogant and the ignorant ones.

There should be a forum with a mandatory IQ test that you'd need to pass before being allowed to participate. smile

Agreed! It gets hot in there, and I don't mind telling you that it is a lot harder to moderate that forum compared to the others (which is why I do most of the moderating in there... it takes a bastard like me to do the job).

This all said - I think it is working pretty well, people clearly wanna talk and debate about these issues and although some people just wanna vent and don't want to listen to each other, on the whole I think the forum is good fun. Also, it's been quite popular since we created it...

I check the forum everyday, but rarely post there anymore.
I started a thread
yesterday about the media...it may not even belong there.
I liked the forum better before the "war" talk started.
One of the subjects people used to discuss was how divisive
religion is. I agree, religion divides, but not as bitterly as politics.
Nationalism is a religion itself and now I see that one's political views
are also venerated by some.
And to think...some of these same persons make fun of the faith that Christians have.
It seems that all have faith in something, whether it be weapons of war,
man(Bush), country, money, or something else.
Some, it seems have even elevated themselves in the place of God.
The other day, someone told us rather loudly to GET OFF OUR KNEES and BLAH BLAH BLAH...curse...curse...curse!!!
I'm thinking... "HE" wants to be our God. He wants us to obey him.
Anyway...I hope the P&R forum will soon have a bit more focus on spirituality.
Melody

nod I think it was Robert Bellah who wrote on American civil religion--basically how American nationalism had become a religion unto itself with its own venerated symbols, rituals, pilgrimage sites, saints, etc. Probably the same can be said of other nationalisms as well.
