When I heard about the criticism, I assumed it must have come from the Great and the Good of the city, worried about bad publicity. Interesting that it's come (as far as I can see) from rappers and those one might expect to be open to these kinds of issues becoming the stuff of art and entertainment, and not thinking that's inherently wrong. I wonder how widely those sentiments are shared within the city - since Twitter can sometimes make mountains out of molehills. That's always been Spike Lee's style, if you followed his film career: satire humor.

i wonder, will the message be relevant in this movie? this is the total of the synopsis as shown at : https://www.google.com/#q...e+synopsis (to no avail was any futher info on a plot or synopsis of the film. i guess one could call it a anthropological - sociological exposay of a major problem within the inner cities from the overflow and the availablity of guns for the economically challenged people of chicago. ( i hope there is at least a whisper of a focus on wtf and where tf guns are being supplied from and by whom. also, my 'f's mostly mean
it's like ah "stealth silent" when someone brings up "why aren't the tax payers dollars being spent for law enforcement to investigate where the guns are flowing in from. and post that important gun related halt to halting gun regulations in the media. too many ill trained people are owning guns. and have not gone through proper prcedure via gun related state forms. 'cause hey, i don't want to be driving past a certain area to get to a bridge and some "gone crazy" with a gun done messed up my day. or the gawds forbid i'm with some family member getting out of my car to go to a fast food restaurant and get caught in some cross fire. > it'd be cool if someone started a story thread about how unscanned guns are so redily available in certain areas of certain cities.

Chi-Raq/Film synopsis
"Women abstain from sex to persuade their significant others to end gang violence in Chicago."
i mean it's obvious the most important message in the film is about finding peace amisdt the bullet ridden landscape. however at this point seems a 50% - 50% pov is what i can give as far as the film geting any of my kudos. and from a real perspective, >>>>>>> one gets tired of getting messaged continually from the waist down. so i'm hoping it's not gonna be a parade of scant. and scat. > however at least spike lee is trying to make and give positive evolutionary changes a reality in african american and black communities arcross the u s. > remember that one film 'do the right thing' spike did with danny aeollo in a starring role? : https://en.wikipedia.org/...ight_Thing and other notables? well in "chiraqu he also has some notables like john cusack (remember him in the film 'conair' with nicholas cage.) > so one positive thing imo is that spike lee does step forward out of no where and makes a move that says "enough is enough." ( from his pov). (he may not always b right, but he makes the right moves.) ^^^Agreed. We may not always understand all of Spike's movies, but at least he's bold enough to address issues that most directors shy away from as to not "rock the boat". In fact, some of his decent movies are slept on at the box office, which we all know too well Spike has voiced his opinion about for years. But still, I like that he keeps pushing on despite that. One thing's for sure, Spike has most certainly included actors of quality in his projects, whether already famous or not. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Spike lee give his thoughts on Chicago violence issue, BLM movement, etc.
I don't dare post this in the P&R forum because this is what I have been saying all along but the usual suspects in that forum will attack you. I wonder if they would attack Spike for saying the same thing I am saying.

Read a review of it yesterday that suggested it may be pretty bad. Kind of plays to my fears from seeing the trailers. "Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced." - James Baldwin

I meant to go see it last weekend but didn't get a chance to. I'm surprised at all of the debates going on about the backlash of the movie and how native Chicagoeans are offended by the film. It sort of makes me want to just go see what all the fuss is about. I mean Jennifer Hudson is a native Chicagoean, if the movie wasn't up to par, I'm sure she would have declined to be in it...I would think. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

How long will or could they sustain that weapon between their legs, from their significant others, before the violence stops? To me, that creates another problem, making it unrealistic, but it least there's good intentions behind it. Anyways, like you, I don't mind checking it out, to see if I can form a different perspective and besides, Spike is known for creating controversial movies with a satirical twist to it.

Haven't seen this one yet, but my co-worker saw it and said it was absolute garbage!

Are people really looking for this movie to be some sort of solution to the problem, like that Greek play was some kind of solution to war? The complaints I do hear are bizarre to me.
