Narnia or the Lord of the Rings?

Hi! Recently started reading Silmarillion and wow, how could I have not known this book for all these years...

Just made me curious, for those who love reading, which do you prefer? C.S. Lewis or Tolkien smile?

That's a hard one, both have many sentimental associations/memories for me.
The Hobbit v Narnia would be easy 4 me ~ The Hobbit.
I think I'll have to say Narnia, unlike Lord Rings it came into my life as a small child & there's a few family stories involved.
Also i love that lion, the wardrobe, the snow queen, the forest etc etc 😊

Unfortunately I've only read part of both books and decided I'll probably never finish them until I'm 80 and the silmarillin is out of the question. My book list is too long for complicated fun reads at this point in my life. But yes the movies were a nice introduction to the stories. I still haven't figured out the point of the eagles.

I have not read the books but I've seen ALL the flicks a BaZillion times....Lord of the Rings becuz the Director made the film for Adults. Narnia was made for the kids. Narnia part 3 was AWFUL..."The Call" from the Narnia soundtrack is one of the best songs featured in a Sci-Fi epic...

Having actually played Mrs. Beaver onstage, I'm going to go with Narnia.

Narnia, without any DOUBT! I've loved them since I was 10!! (though I've seen only the 1st movie, and while I didn't dislike it, I'm not going to see the other ones - I prefer reading).

When I was watching LOTR back 10 years ago, (I had read the books back in 92), I was suddenly struck by the thought - OK, either this is the.... greeeeeeaaaaatest work of fantasy ever, or this is the biggest piece of BULLSHIT ever, and I tend to go with the latter... I mean, it's a roughly fictionalised version of REAL English history, it's not FANTASY at all..... and I simply don't LIKE the story much anyway....

Tolkien hands down, the dude created a world with different language, myths, beings, creatures, etc. Plus Narnia is just a F prop for Christianity. meh.

I've never read Narnia.

The movie was my only experience with that storyline.

The L-O-T-R movies prompted me to read the books. I was enthralled with it.

So, it's Tolkien for me. thumbs up!

A long time ago I read something, it's a while back, I may be wrong.
Wasn't there something about Tolkien wanting to create something 4 the modern english peep (anglo/saxon/norman/viking/roman etc) akin to what the Celts have regarding The Tuatha De Dannan/Druids etc ? And wasn't there something about James Joyce in there too?

Narnia of course. No brainier and look at how it's stood the test of time and appeals to all generations.

haha yeah...they were apparently a huge part of the series from the very beginning (silmarillion) and they did way more than other creatures like the ents aka talking trees. Though I remember when I watched the films for the first time how everyone was asking "but why didn't they just fly to Mordor from the beginning with the eagles..?" oh the memories...

Narnia books were much easier to read when I was a youngster but Lord of the Rings rules, and it's not even close.

Make it so, Number One...

I didn't get far enough in the book to get their point.

I do get the issues about Frodo's age, I got that far which isn't saying much.

I did Cliff Note both LotR and Silmarillion, I was curious. At least I get the jokes about making the Silmarillion into a movie.

Yeah I'd like that too,but what about Merlin? The movie Excalibur has the greatest Merlin I've ever seen. There was def some Merlin influence in the character of Gandalf the Grey.

That would be pretty awesome. Gandalf is essentially a maia which is a demi-god, angelic type of creature. It was pretty interesting to find out that he isn't human. I know a lot of Tolkien fans think it's a bad idea but I would love to see Silmarillion, the prequel story of Hobbit and Lord of the Rings get made into movie series someday...
