Is it important to you, that the person you have your children with...

:
compliment your looks and intelligence?

For example, if your height, nose, hair, skintone, or any other part of your body that has bothered you... would you want a mate who would offset that?

Like Prince and his height - should he have not chosen a tall female to bear his children? Stupid example, but I wanted to make it clear.

In a didactic sense, I would say no. Yet in an expinensial/retorical phasiology I would be forced to concur the value of said rudimentary observations, or yes.

No...we are what we are; but the person you have your children with should find you attractive.

The sister of my best friend in grade school, told me that she specifically - my best friend ended up doing the same - looked for a man who was tall, had dark hair, and blue eyes. She found him, eventually got married, and had two beautiful daughters. The irony here is, niether one had the qualities of her husband. biggrin

But I know people who have done this, so I wanted to see what others thought.

Trying to offset a feature...I understand the question now.

I would think your children might be a complete surprise; they might look like a grandparent, for example. It would seem like a very silly way to choose a mate--think of the great person you might disqualify in the process!

biggrin Exactly! But then again, it also happens all the time that a person mates and features get softened... but there are no guarantees, that's for sure. wink

Unless you're gonna chart pedigrees and use Punnet squares to calculate the likelihood of phenotypic variables, I think the idea is little more than a whimsical one. Genes can play some very unpredictable tricks in the face of lighthearted "planning."

From some biological standpoint, I've heard that all animals seek on some subconcious level a partner that has genetic qualities that might desirably affect their offsping. I can buy that. But while I'm more immediately drawn to others whom I find physically or intellectually attractive, I can't say I considered my wife's "papers" when I met her as reproduction was regarded.

Well said!

I agree. One thing I forgot to mention was that her other sister - not my best friend - married a man who possessed the same traits (brown hair, brown eyes, medium height, etc) and her daughter came out with blonde hair and blue eyes! lol

Most definately, it's really those recessive genes that one doesn't see that can play a large role.

My gf is a quite lot taller than me...but it wasn't planned by either of us. We just like each other a lot. That's the important thing.

wow...interesting but there is no guarantee on what feature the child may pick up. Myself and my daughters father are dark brown skinned and my child is the color of Prince. She looks EXACTLY like her dad but yet she didn't get our skin color. So you never know.

I hope the father of my kids will be reasonably tall. It would be cruel to have little itty tiny boys, as I'm under 5 feet.

This will likely be a non-issue... I don't think I want any children. biggrin

I wonder if I could select a mate to offset my appalling personality.

If possible, I would suggest the same for many of you. ;-D

If Prince wants a tall woman, he better look me up QUICK lol

I think about it only in the sense of height. I wouldn't wanna breed w/ a baller, my kids would all be awkward 7 footers who are too difficult to clothe - who needs that?? neutral
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

You hit on the reason I thought about this thread to begin with. I was thinking about how tiny Prince was, and how he's worn heels to offset his height. I'm not sure if it ever bothered him, but... makes you think he'd want to increase the height within his genepool.

I think it's cool that you are. I have a sister who is 4'11", and she goes around saying she is 5'... just cuz. lol She is my father's child from another mother. She is sooo cute and petite!

Thanks for the inspiration LaV.

I think I will go out and impregnate twenty women today in an effort to create a perfect society.

Seriously, I don't think children are the end result of some scientific formula. They are more an extension of one's love.
