It opens Dec 18th, the day kids get out of school for Christmas break....Like most theaters the morning matinee shows will be sold out (Filled with Geeks), but you'll get good seats for the 1pm to 10pm shows that day....Here's a tip....Most cheap people are not gonna pay the extra $10 for 3D, so it pays to go to the 3D showing for better seats.....

At this rate everything will be sold out for a month, taking it into next year. I guess it'll help against the crazy lines.

naww i got tickets a this morning for the Dec 17th 7 PM show

Some fans are upset over the film's "diversity", and are calling for a boycott.

You understand as well as anyone here that there are always going to be evil, mean, vile people that will use any event in an attempt to further their downtrodden agenda.

The real story here isn't that a handful of morons are trying to create a boycott of this movie. The real story is that they have failed miserably.

Oh no! They are TRUMP supporters! And you know what this means, right? Well, if you don't read the Politics and Religion forum, then let me tell you what this means! It means:

DONALD TRUMP AND EVERYONE THAT SUPPORTS TRUMP IN ANY WAY IS A RACIST!

I know, I know - that doesn't make sense. But there are 4 or 5 people in P&R that post that over and over, so it must be true!

I'm excited for what appears to be a leading character who is a Black Jedi.

Mace Windu was not a leading character.

What difference does it make if he's black or white? Do they have racial prejudice in space? They should have had a green alien and pissed everyone off.

It makes a lot of difference to me, Emma, because the American public would benefit from
viewing a heroic (dare I say salvific?) character on screen who is the same color of Trayvon
Martin.

So while I don't know about racial prejudice in space, I do know about racial prejudice on
Earth and like it or not, characters depicted on the silver screen often reflect stereotypes
held by the public; and, characters depicted on the silver screen can change the way the
public views its stereotypes. This speaks to the power of the cinema as an art form.

It's good to see a strong female lead as well, as opposed to a female lead who is simply
a love interest and the matrix for the "chosen one."

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. I have to admit that I find it hard to understand why anyone would complain that he's black. I'm sure they cast the guy because of his acting ability rather than his skin colour. So if he's the best man for the job, why do some idiots feel like he shouldn't get the part?

I don't think there are many casting directors/directors who don't consider an actor's skin
color when assembling a cast. I know it's easy to view Hollywood as being a beacon for a
post-racial society, but that ain't (always) the case!

JJ Abrams is smart; and I think he was purposeful about this casting choice (leading female,
leading Black man) in the most celebrated narrative in film. He was probably looking for a
Black male lead who can act his arse off; and he was probably looking for a female lead who
could act her arse off.

It's good for minorities (and our desires to actually move into a post-racial society) to see
themselves depicting heroic and redemptive characters on film, as opposed to blond hair,
blue eyed men who are always the "chosen one." Well, let's see a woman and a Black man
save the day!

Can't wait! I love me some Star Wars. I went to see Episode 1 in the cinema when it came out. I must have been about 9. I had never seen a Star Wars before then and I didn't want to go. I was dragged there kicking and screaming. But I loved it! Really loved it. Episode 2 and 3 followed but i didn't have to be dragged to them lol. Then I watched the originals on video and fell in love with Harrison Ford. Since then I've seen all of the clone wars cartoon and the first season of Rebels. I know it's all very cynical and the only real reason episode 7 is being made is because Disney want an extra couple billion dollars but I don't care. It's Star Wars.

Just out of curiosity, as you're a younger fan who came to
Star Wars trough the prequel trilogy first, how do you feel about the two trilogies in comparison to each other. And also do you feel cheated by missing out on the reveal in Empire? I showed my 6 year old nephew the original trilogy first and his reaction to the big reveal literally brought a tear to my eye. I was so jealous that I already knew but his reaction was like living it again vicariously through him.

The hardest part for the actors is the "waiting"....Most movies are shot out of sequence and the actors NEVER know which scenes the Director/Editor/Studio is gonna keep or trash...John Boyega's (Finn) reaction to the trailer was priceless...Very rare that I read character Bio's but I want to know more about Finn before I see the flick...My hunch is he's related to Billy D. Williams old character..

I really liked the prequels (though I think episode 2 could have been better). I do think the original trilogy is far superior though. Even though, as you say, the big reveal in in empire strikes back was no surprise, I still thought it was done very well. There were still other things going on that I didn't know the outcome of like Lando selling out Han Solo and the whole "I love you", "I know" scene. The was simultaneously very cool and heartbreaking. I actually watched return of the Jedi immediately after empire ended. I had to see what happened next!!
So yeah, I do prefer the originals and I wish I didn't know who Luke's father was before it was revealed but like I said, there was enough twists to keep me going.

Ooh, tough one. I tried to show my daughter a new hope but she wouldn't watch it. She's two, so that probably explains that. smile
To answer your question, I'd have her start with the originals. Let her experience the whole saga in the order they were made.

Yeah, two is a bit early. When I first tried with my nephew at 4 or 5 he lasted until the Storm troopers came through the door of Organa's ship and then ran off with a stick to play storm troopers in the garden. Woked at the 2nd attempted at age 6 and I was so proud when he saw Phantom Menace and said "Jar Jar is stupid" But he hid behind the couch when he saw the Ewoks. What the hell is that about? He's fine with Orcs but bricks it at flippin Teebo. confused

Maybe, I'm going with Billy D. Williams character because Billy D. would still be alive in the new movie...Samuel Jackson's character would be so freaking Old/dead, but Finn could be related to either character regardless of timeline..If Disney plans to do 3 movies I hope we'll see a lot of twists..
