Um, yeah. No! Wait, what?



Last month, we talked about French scientists uncovering an ancient virus from Siberia that they plan to resurrect in their lab. Well, this time around, the gamble is taken to a whole new level, with a Russian scientist injecting himself with 3.5 million-year old bacteria that was salvaged from the permafrost region of Siberia. The man in question here – Anatoli Brouchkov, envisions this antediluvian bacteria as a sort of ‘elixir of youth’ that could possibly lengthen his life. And, while he doesn’t really know how such an incredible biological scope could work, he put forth the example of aspirin and lack of prevalent knowledge regarding this common medication.

and judging from his unusually intrepid approach when it comes to human trials with an ancient bacteria he knows nothing about, i'd say his qualifications fall somewhat short of 'scientist'

In truth I was thinking this is the type of scientist who needs eyes kept on him. Given what I've read so far, to me he sounds like someone who wouldn't hesitate to use people for experimentation.

What I'm understanding is the French scientists are warning companies that going into these newly defrosted regions to just start drilling for oil and other natural resources without testing could be dangerous because they did find a strain of bacteria/virus that could be harmful to people. So here he goes trying to prove that there is no real danger. For all we know he could have been paid as a schill to do it.

Those wacky Russians. Funny if it turned him into a Prince fan.
