I don't like blood and guts and chainsaws, but a creepy thriller would be great. Anyone have any favorite scary movies they can recommend?

Over time, Repulsion has become one of my favorite movies, so I highly recommend it.

It's a good one.

I'm a fan of scary movies, not so much the chop 'em up but more suspence/ghost story. Everyone's suggestions are all pretty good. The Excorsist changed me as a child (watching it for the first time) and is on the list of all time scary.

Here's my list that's focused on the last 15 years of more-scary-not-as-gore-based movies.

Oculus (2014)

The Conjuring (2013)

Sinister (2012)

Woman in Black (2012)

I Saw the Devil (2010)

Insidious (2010)

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2010)

Drag Me to Hell (2009)

The Strangers (2008)

Let The Right One In (2008)

The Mist (2007)

Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

Special Mention;
The Others (2001)

I know they're not all GOLD but C'mon if we agreed on all of the same movies, we'd have to hang out in person. LOL!

A lot of good one on here. But I'm into the classics. Not necessarily the scariest but they have that eeriness that I recall as a kid. Gotta check out Dracula(Bela Lugosi)Frankenstein (Boris Karloff) Dracula's Daughter (Gloria Holden) Bride of Frankenstein, and the other Universal pictures movies that are black and white and put out between 1931-1949. Plus any of the Christopher Lee Dracula's. I'm having my own private party all day. Don't wanna be disturbed just wanna eat ice cream, Halloween themed cup cakes , and pizza and watch my classics.

My favorite scary movies are:

The original "Halloween"
The Legend of Hell House
The Blair Witch Project
Paranormal Activity I and II
The Wolfman

Thank you all for no one mentioning "Graffitti Bridge". I honestly expected to see that one on more than a few lists, LOL.

We were very frustrated and dissappointed by "Crimson Peak" but it did have some great costumes and art direction.

Some articles from my movie website you might find helpful...

a. The ten best movies for Halloween: http://filmsfilmsfilms.co...s/1-1-0-14

b. The ten best horror remakes: http://filmsfilmsfilms.co...s/1-1-0-35

You'll also find sections on the ten best zombie films, vampire movies, nuclear war movies (they really give me the chills!), horror comedies, creature features and others. The Film Blog also has a review of the Friday the 13th, Halloween, and Nightmare On Elm Street franchises!

Some horror films that you might not have heard of that are worth checking out ... Eden Lake (2008), Session 9 (2001), Triangle (2009), Ghost Story (1981), The Changeling (1980), The Descent (2005, Rec (2007) and Rec 2 (2009).

If you love "The Shining" like I do (I've seen it well over 50 times and even have the rare soundtrack on vinyl), it's well worth seeing what Stephen King, and, then by adaptation, Stanley Kubrick lifted a lot of ideas and themes from:

Ghostbusters, part 1. that bit where dan akroyd is all like "i'm sorry, it just popped into my head" and then they all look up and see the giant stay-puft marshmallow man rounding the corner of fifty first and maple. i mean seriously - forget michael meyers or freddy and that guy with the saw. children of the corn? ha! i'd babysit them any day rather than face that stay-puft dude. i mean how do you even run from something like that? wouldn't it crush you with its giant marshmallow foot? or would you just get stuck in there?? either way i get chills

.

i can relate.
