The vampire television series continue to live on

There are two in development.

Elizabeth Báthory Period Vampire Drama From David Eick & Joel Silver Set At CBS

Elizabeth_Bathory

One of the darkest female figures in European history, 16th century Hungarian countess Elizabeth Báthory, is the subject of a CBS drama series project from Battlestar Galactica alum David Eick and producer Joel Silver.

Bathory, produced by Lionsgate TV and Silver Pictures, tells the story of woman nicknamed the Blood Countess and Countess Dracula. Considered the world’s most prolific serial killer, Báthory is believed to have tortured and murdered more than 600 girls. She also is known for her vampire-like tendencies, including drinking the girls’ blood. Báthory eventually was arrested, tried and convicted, spending her last days in solitary confinement. Eick will write the script and will executive produce with Silver.

Brides of Dracula Drama From Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa & Greg Berlanti Lands At NBC With Pilot Production Commitment

Draculabrides

EXCLUSIVE: What if Van Helsing did NOT kill the three brides of Dracula? What if they survived for centuries and are now living in New York City? That is the basic premise of Brides, a hot gothic soap drama from playwright, screenwriter and comic book writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and top TV producer Greg Berlanti, which has landed at NBC with a pilot production commitment. Written by Aguirre-Sacasa, Brides is described as a sexy reimagining of Dracula as a family drama with a trio of strong, diverse female leads, a show about empowered women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their non-traditional family. The project hails from Warner Bros. Television and studio-based Berlanti Prods., with Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti and Berlanti Prods.’ Sarah Schechter executive producing.

Known in popular culture as the Brides of Dracula, the three characters, originally introduced in Bram Stoker’s classic novel, are portrayed as beautiful and powerful female vampire “sisters” who reside with Count Dracula in his castle in Transylvania where they use their charm to seduce and bewitch men before preying on them. They manage to entrance Van Helsing too before he shakes off their spell and kills them. The characters are a staple in the Dracula mythology and have appeared in most Dracula screen adaptations, headlining the 1960 British movie The Brides Of Dracula.

i'm not a huge fan of elizabeth bathory. i don't think she was a vampire, just insane and unspeakably cruel. but it will be cool to see a take on the brides of dracula that is about 'female empowerment', which will be a twist. thanks for the heads up~!

There was a horror movie loosely based on the Bathory legend (before I had heard of it) from the 1970s which I enjoyed as a kid. It was called Countess Dracula--over the top melodrama. lol

Considering the subject matter, I'd think a Bathory TV series would be more appropriate for a cable channel.

Brides of Dracula looks like Charmed with vampires instead of witches. Not interested.

I think this last season of TVD is setting the stage for these brides of dracula with their Heretic storyline. Can't say I'll watch, I never had any intentions of ever watching TVD, I'm still trying to figure out how that happened, and I've never see True Blood, so I can't say I really have that big of a thing for the vampire genre, but I did do the one and only season of Dracula.
