Collin McHugh for the 'Stros, with Dallas Keuchel available in the pen. If that doesn't do it, then I don't know what will.

Go 'Stros!

I disagree. That wasn't a slide. He came in on his knees. I don't have any problem with Utley targeting him, but coming in on his knees like that was over the line. Even though he wasn't trying to hurt him, I agree with that.

Right, it's never a "great job" when the other player's leg gets broken.

I don't condemn Utley for the leg break. He wasn't trying to hurt the guy, I'm sure of that. But he made a bad choice, and didn't actually slide. You make a bad choice like that, you have to accept the penalty.

But I'll tell you what - all the ballplayers I've heard that are 40 years or older all side with Utley. Even Craig Biggio said there wasn't a thing wrong with Utley's move. I disagree but then again, Bidge is a Hall of Fame second baseman, so he's probably more right than I am.

Has Tejada made a statement on it? Really, his is the opinion that counts the most.

And, it turns out this isn't the first time Utley has done this to Tejada. Utley took out Tejada in a somewhat similar fashion five years ago, but Tejada wasn't hurt. The difference? Utley actually SLID this time:

Watching the broadcast and commentaries after the Dodgers/Mets game, I saw quite a few former players disagree with Utley's slide--most notably ex-pitcher Ron Darling who got into a minor argument on air about the slide with Cal Ripkin who said it was clean. Interestingly, I believe Cal's brother, Billy was against the play when it was discussed on the MLB channel.

Interesting. Darling, a pitcher, would never have been in such a situation but doesn't agree with Utley's move. Ripken, a middle infielder who HAS been in that situation many times, thought it was clean.

Like I said, all the old baseball players I've heard comment on it said it was OK, but it still doesn't seem OK to me. But what do I know? I was an outfielder, LOL.

Again, the "slide" was 100% clean. Everyone in the ballpark (Utley included) knew Tejada did not have a double play...which is why Utley wasnt initially sliding. As soon as Tejada began to pirouette for the throw to first, Utley said "Oh shit!" and took him out...just like he's supposed to. It's an instinct thing for a guy like Utley (Old school baller) and as long as he is within an arm's length of the base (which he was), it is 100% legal. Of course that rule will be changed this off-season because in the 21st century, we play "Powder Puff" sports.

All that being said...way to go, Kershaw! I like the boys chances at home Thurs with Greinke on the hill. GO DODGERS

Ron Darling is also an ex-Met so I'm sure that infulenced his opinion on the subject.

Billy Ripkin was an infielder too. The players I watched on TV were split 50/50. Maybe they chose where they stood just to present the debate for the viewing audience.

Both Texas teams got eliminated within a matter of hours.

Watching replays of Jose Bautista's home run in the Toronto/Texas game, that was the granddaddy of all bat flips, my goodness.

Johnny Cueto was just too good. Congratulations to the Royals.

OMG what was up with the Texas Rangers? Talk about a choke job! Bad day for baseball in the state of Texas.

Thanks for nothing, Governor Abbott! smile
