The questionable call was ruling baserunner Chase Utley safe. Joe Torre explained at a press conference afterward that Utley was called safe even though he never touched second base because he was never tagged out either after shortstop Ruben Tejada missed stepping on the base with the ball. The play was then ruled dead after Utley was initially called out and ran off the field. Joe said if a Mets player had tagged him afterward with the ball then Utley would have been called out. I can sort of understand that, it's like a play at home plate where a catcher never tags the runner and the runner misses home plate, the runner isn't out either. But in that case there is no call by the umpire which lets both teams know the play is still ongoing. In last night's game because Utley was incorrectly called out at second base, there was no reason for another Mets infielder to tag him with the ball. Utley was already called out, why tag him with the ball again? And by the time the play was overturned, it was already dead and too late to tag him out.

How about those Astros! We were at Game 3 and it was INCREDIBLE. It was louder than the World Series game I went to (although the 'Stros were down in the Series 3-0, so that might have had something to do with that).

Astros leading 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th as I type this. GO ASTROS!

I disagree. That wasn't a slide. He came in on his knees. I don't have any problem with Utley targeting him, but coming in on his knees like that was over the line. Even though he wasn't trying to hurt him, I agree with that.

Ah yes, I see it's all over the news now:

Harold Reynolds says Canadians can't catch, Twitter outrage ensues

By Jaime Uribarri New York Daily News Monday, October 12, 2015, 12:24 PM

He didn’t break anybody’s leg, but Harold Reynolds still managed to outrage an entire baseball fanbase over the weekend.

Unlike Chase Utley’s brutal takedown of Ruben Tejada, however, Reynolds targeted the entire nation of Canada, claiming that its people don’t know how to catch a baseball.

Now that’s a real cheap shot.

Reynolds tossed international diplomacy out the window during Game 3 of the ALDS between the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays. A hard foul ball into the stands from Jose Bautista was all it took for the former player-turned Fox Sports analyst to mock America’s neighbors to the north.

"We we're talking about foul balls in the stands up in Toronto and because there's not a lot of people who grew up playing baseball in Canada, they're not used to catching a lot of balls hit into the stands."

Those words clearly hit a nerve among the proud Canadian people, many of whom took Reynolds to task on Twitter.

Even famous Canada native Larry Walker, a five-time All-Star renowned for his glove work, had some fun at his former colleague's expense.

“I won 7 gold gloves. I think part of winning them was cause I could catch,” Walker tweeted.

Right, it's never a "great job" when the other player's leg gets broken.

No diff than a runner slamming the catcher coming home to score to get him to drop the ball.. accidents happen. If a legs broke or a shoulders separated or your knocked out unconcious etc noone wants ppl to get hurt intentionally but shit happens. Dodgers got their asses handed to em tonight ugly.

But you can't slam into the catcher any more. They changed that rule a couple years ago, and now players have to slide.

I have no problem with Utley trying to break up the double play, and I'm sure he didn't go into that with an intention to hurt Tejada.

But he didn't slide. The unwritten rule is, you have to slide. You don't see players barrelling into the shortstop like they used to do to the catcher. They slide. They keep their spikes down, but they silde.

Utley didn't slide.

I stopped watching baseball more than a decade ago...............but I'll always be a Cubs fan.

It would be great 2 see them pull it off this year.

After all, this was predicted in the movie Back 2 the Future II.

Our dumba** governor tweeted out congratulations to the Astros for winning the ALDS when the Astros were up 6-2. Then, of course, we lost. What does our esteemed governor do? Does he admit his mistake? Say, "Ooops, sorry. My bad"?

No.

He tries to use his OTHER Twitter account to say that no one should follow the account that made the pre-emptory congratulations post.

Except that FIRST account is his official Governor of Texas account.

What a doofus.
