NFL thread

Starting a new thread

OK Josh Scobee maybe gone soon wave

Steelers to try out kickers Chris Boswell, Kai Forbath

The Pittsburgh Steelers are on the lookout for alternatives to struggling kicker Josh Scobee.

Every game, all season

NFL Media's James Palmer reported the Steelers will try out free agent Chris Boswell, who was with the New York Giants in training camp. In addition, the team also plans to try out former Redskins kicker Kai Forbath, a source informed of his plans told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. Both try outs are scheduled for Saturday.

Less than two weeks ago, coach Mike Tomlin insisted he had no concerns about Scobee after the kicker missed two field goals in the season opener and an extra point in Week 2.

It certainly appears that Tomlin has changed his mind after Scobee missed two more field goals in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter in last night's crushing loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The Steelers acquired Scobee and his $3.425 million salary in exchange for a sixth-round pick. It might be time to cut the cord on that investment, as Tomlin couldn't trust his kicker on a pair of fourth-down opportunities in overtime of Thursday's game.

Some very good news today

Steelers sign kicker Chris Boswell, cut Josh Scobee

After a disastrous performance in Thursday night's overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a move at kicker.

Every game, all season

The Steelers signed Chris Boswell, the team announced Saturday.

The move was made in addition to Josh Scobee being cut.

Scobee missed two field goals in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter to set up the brutal loss. Coach Mike Tomlin clearly didn't trust his kicker on a pair of fourth-down plays in overtime leading to the defeat. Scobee made just six of 10 field goal tries and missed one extra point in four games in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers acquired Scobee and his $3.425 million salary from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a sixth-round pick in August.

Boswell, 24, spent training camp with the New York Giants. He was undrafted out of Rice and tried out for the Houston Texans in 2014 before being cut. Boswell, who has never attempted a kick in a regular-season game, boasts a strong leg and will now be relied on in one of the most difficult home fields for kickers in the NFL.

Boswell will be the fourth stab at kicker for Pittsburgh in 2015 after Shaun Suisham and Garrett Hartley both went on injured reserve.

The Steelers also tried out former Washington Redskins kicker Kai Forbath.

There is talk of a NFL team in London, not in favor of it. But if they do then give L.A a new team as well (one team will be in the AFC & NFC). If London get's a team then bring back the Monarchs.

Steve Smith: Mike Mitchell is 'on my lifetime hit list'

Ornery Baltimore Ravens wideout Steve Smith made another enemy in Thursday night's thrilling victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After taking a hit from Pittsburgh Steelers safety Mike Mitchell, Smith vowed revenge on his former Carolina Panthers teammate.

"The best thing I can do without threatening him and saying that I will assault him when I see him," Smith said after the game, "is I will say I look forward to playing him again. He's on my lifetime hit list."

Smith accused Mitchell of not only spearing the venerable wide receiver, but also crowing after the hit, "How do you like that?"

Prior to his final NFL season, Smith vowed on The Rich Eisen Show to "wound, damage and punctur... of people" on his way out of the league.

Over the course of his career, the trash-talking Smith has had similar run-ins with defensive backs such as Fred Smoot (rowboat touchdown celebration), Aqib Talib ("Ice up, son") and Janoris Jenkins ("You're no Primetime").

Smith missed the end of the game with a lower-back injury, conceding after the game that his body feels 36 years old for the first time in his career. Per Yahoo's Eric Edholm, though, X-rays showed no more damage than a contusion.

^^^^^^^^
What a dumb ass thing to say for a WR to a defensive player (but then again what do you expect from a Raven).

After yesterday's performance I'm not so sure about that. Obviously not having
Foster(to start the season) and qb issues has hampered the offense. I wonder how my dude Clowney is doing.
The biggest disappointment of the season to date has to be the Lions and
Dolphins.

Clowney is OK. But our defense isn't, even with J. J. Watt and Clowney. We gave up 48 points. We gave up 28 points in the first half. You can't win doing that, I don't care how good Watt and Clowney play.

Our quarterback play is atrocious. No one in Houston can figure out why the Texans let Ryan Fitzpatrick go without trying to find an NFL-caliber replacement. It's ridiculous, and future Hall of Famer Andre Johnson demanded (and received) his walking papers because of it.

I honestly can think of no reason why we haven't contacted Tim Tebow, other than stubborness. I say this with all sincerity - Tebow would be an upgrade over what we have now.

Chancellor made an amazing play. Hawks got away with not having it negated by a technicality. Of course, I'm a Seattle fan, so I'm partial.

In the history of blown calls, I'm not feeling too guilty about this one. No one seemed to know wtf happened with this play until someone blew the dust of an antiquated rule book (except for perhaps K. J. , whose body language looks a little guilty / tentative while doing it).

Antiquated? When a fumble goes out of bounds...............the ball is spotted where it was last inbounds. There is nothing antiquated about that basic call. The refs blew the call plain and simple.

Scrub teams never seem 2 get those calls.

It is not fair. These guy get paid just like the other team.

U are correct, it looks more like the half yard line is where the ball should be spotted.

That's the history of Detroit football. The playoff game against Dallas where
they got the short end. I remember a few years ago in a game on opening day against the Bears Calvin Johnson caught what appeared to be the winning td but the refs said he didn't have complete control. These things only happen to the Lions. Remember a few years ago when the Browns were kicking the Patriots ass for 4 quarters and the Patriots came back but when it was apparent the Browns were gonna seal the victory in New England the refs called a ridiculous pass interference call that allowed the Patriots to get the ball at the one yard line and steal the game. Now that was probably one of my top 5 worst bad calls of all time so in a nutshell most often the bad teams don't get the calls. As for the call in last night game there was a time when that was a legal play but they probably changed it in recent years.

I still remember when Troy Polamalu intercepted that pass from Peyton Manning (Colts) then the refs said it was not an interception (Troy caught the ball in mid air) confuse not sure if that was a playoff game or the AFC championship game

  1. A fumble that goes forward and out of bounds will return to the fumbling team at the spot of the fumble unless the ball goes out of bounds in the opponent’s end zone. In this case, it is a touchback.

I'm not sure if you were actually arguing that in all cases, the ball should return to the spot of the fumble. There's plenty grist for the mill if you want to argue KJ intent in 'batting' the ball.

Dean Blandino admitted the refs botched the call. There should have been a penalty on Wright for batting the ball out of the endzone, giving Detroit possession inside the 1.
