Thanks to everyone who offered their comments and suggestions, and special thanks to LaVisHh for her professional advice!

As suggested by my new stylist, Josh (who just got back from a hairstylist educational seminar in L.A.), I went ahead and had some subtle highlights done. They don't show up in the pic very well due to the lighting, but they're quite natural-looking. Overall, I'm very pleased.

I'm practicing various ways to style the top. (LaVisHh, he did cut the top "jagged" per your instructions, so I can mess it up for club nights or whatever.)

Josh must be some kind of haircutting prodigy, because he's only been doing it for about two years (I think). He is very careful and skilled in his work, and he clearly takes pride in it.



I tried to--but since my last visit to this salon (it's been about six years), they've adopted a no-tip policy. He politely declined, but was appreciative nonetheless

One other note: Josh wants me to grow my bangs out. I've got a four-week followup appointment scheduled, so we'll have to see what he has in mind for my bangs.

Yes, it appears that he did cut it "jagged". You will just have to practice having fun with different messy looks. It always will look best with a good medium/strong-hold gel, and with just your fingers "combing" through the back.

That whole no tipping thing just means that they include your tip in the price of the haircut!
This could become the norm because the irs is trying to change the way we claim our tips from the honor system to claiming a certain percentage like waiters and waitresses!
This is fine for those of us that work in high end salons, but horrible for those who work in $10 hair shacks where the stylist is only paid an hourly wage!!!
