I understand how badly it sucks...but here's what happens when you have a small business that people dont talk about in those empowerment life coach courses:

- landlords - (I was in NYC) rent increases 25% yearly or more on commercial space and thats when you HAVE a lease longer than 5 years.

- airbnb next to, on the same floor as your legit commercial business - god knows what you see when you come in in the morning
- overcharging on repairs, electricty, just because you look like your getting successful


- employees - attempt to steal your clients (they never managed it w/me but they will do dumb shit like that and you have to fire them, instantly)

- attempt to walk with your proprietary stuff, contacts, etc etc

- flat out steal equipment, money, cleaning supplies, you name it

- clients - try not to pay you, if your contracting to larger companies, the REALLY try not to pay you


Taxes: if your a small business you're paying out the a$$ in taxes, the good news: write offs! the bad news is PROFIT, why? TAXES. So I dumped my money back into the business, the write offs for spending are better than taxes on your profit. The good news there is I gave other small biz people work, web designer, tech dude, PR guy, videographer, editing


They'll tell you: outsource!

the reality: go ahead and TRY finding a guy on a freelance website that you can trust with your webhosting info. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. you still have to do everything, then you have to manage people doing the job you're paying them for, and thats another job.

No one will care about your small business but YOU. It doesnt matter if you someone them for a service and you have a deadline and nothings been done.


So, I'm saying in order to put up with, all of the above, IT HAS TO BE LOVE. Or else, you'll fail.

So being in your own business wont shield you from people like your boss, in alot of cases people like your boss will be your clients who wont want to pay you....you will have to deal with that behaviour more often than not. What you do have to do is understand how to diplomatically get what you want at work, because that skill you'll need in SPADES in your own business.

I understand but here's something to consider. When you have employees who have PROVEN that they are outstanding, do a good job, etc. then that should be your clue that you can back off. You don't have to treat employees badly for sport. That's essentially what I was dealing with. The nerve of that company to try to get me to basically work for free while they hire an outside contractor to sit on his but and do nothing because he's not skilled in that particular area like I am. Not every employee is a crook and not every boss is an honest, upstanding person. There are bad people in all ranks and walks of life. The management at this company is horrible.
